Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Nurse Educator to lead education design for the Critical Care Paramedic Program. The role emphasizes competency-based education, blended learning, and interprofessional collaboration to enable successful transition to practice.

The Nurse Educator will partner with instructors and leaders, delivering classroom, simulation, and online learning while maintaining alignment with regulatory standards and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Nursing is required.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education or related discipline is required.
  • Active practicing license with the NSNMR is required.
  • Minimum 3 years' nursing experience in Critical Care and/or Emergency Nursing in the last 5 years.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating non-traditional teaching methods.
  • CNA certification in Critical Care/Emergency Nursing is required.
  • BLS-C certification; ACLS is an asset.
  • Adult education/leadership development education or equivalent is required.
  • Current program and curriculum design experience with classroom, simulation and online teaching.
  • Previous preceptor experience is required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead curriculum design and evaluation for nursing and interprofessional programs.
  • Design, maintain and deliver educational programming via classroom, simulation and online learning.
  • Promote competency-based education to enable transition to practice and learner progression.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Instructors, Clinical Educators and Leaders to build capacity.
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory standards and professional practice.

About the Opportunity

The NS Health Learning Institute for Health Care Providers within Interprofessional Practice and Learning(IPP&L) plays a leadership role within the organization in creating a culture of learning with a focus on transition to specialty practice programs, entry-level transition to practice, interprofessional practice education (IPE) and continuing professional practice development. The Learning Institute promotes accountable professional practice in quality practice environments, facilitates patient and family centered care, fosters collaborative team relationships and supports research and evidence-based practice.


Reporting to the Manager, the Learning Institute, the Nurse Educator is responsible for program and curriculum design: assessing, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating learning and education programs. The Nurse Educator takes a leadership role in facilitating and promoting a culture of excellence in competency-based education to enable successful transition to practice, practice progression, and learner‑centred outcomes.


The Nurse Educator, with Nursing Instructors, Clinical Nurse Educators, and Clinical Leaders, plays a significant role in building capacity through competency based educational strategies to support, develop and contribute to the translation of knowledge, skills and abilities while advancing practice. The Nurse Educator has the primary responsibility to design, maintain and deliver educational programming for nursing and interprofessional programs using classroom, simulation, and online/distance learning strategies. The Nurse Educator practices according to the Registered Nurses Act, Nova Scotia College of Nursing, and Standards of Practice of Registered Nurses.


Specific functional areas of responsibility include:

  • Interprofessional orientation, transition to practice & learner progression

  • Learning & Education Evaluation

  • This position will support the Critical Care Paramedic Program with a particular focus on blended learning.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:



  • Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Science in Nursing required

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education or other related discipline required

  • Consideration will be given to applicants currently pursuing a Master's Degree

  • Active practicing license with the Nova Scotia Nursing & Midwifery Regulator (NSNMR) required

  • Minimum 3 years' full time nursing experience within the last 5 years in Critical Care and/or Emergency Nursing required

  • Previous teaching experience involved designing, implementing and evaluating non-traditional methods of theoretical clinical course instruction of a formal educational program required

  • Certificate course or CNA certification in Critical Care and/or Emergency Nursing required

  • Certificate in BLS-C required; ACLS provider an asset

  • Certificate course in adult education and/or leadership development education or equivalency required

  • Current experience with program and curriculum design and revision of classroom, skill/simulation and on-line teaching; and practical assessment methods required

  • Previous preceptor experience required

  • Demonstrated ability to apply learning and educational theories in program design; curriculum development; instructional and delivery methods; and assessment strategies

  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours


  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly

  • Travel to other sites or throughout the province required. Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required

Compensation and Benefits

$52.46 - $63.36 hourly
$65.58 hourly with 25 years' nursing experience
