Job summary

Sanmina Corporation in Ottawa, Ontario, seeks an NPI Manager to coordinate New Product Introductions across Planning, Operations and Production Control.

You will define build plans, manage ECOs, track material readiness and scheduling, and ensure timely product launches while coordinating transfers to low-cost plants.

Applicants should have at least five years of manufacturing leadership experience and a technical degree.

  • Experience directing the development and implementation of activities in production areas to meet production goals, quality and cost objectives.
  • Experience managing the activities of a team, including developing schedules and staffing requirements for assigned areas, making staffing decisions, training and development and performance management, including evaluating staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
  • Experience prioritizing production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency and materials supply.

  • Define build plans including process readiness, capacity planning and equipment scheduling.
  • Track NPI activities including material readiness, engineering work orders and deviations.
  • Coordinate product documentation and ECOs throughout the NPI cycle.
  • Follow up on product shipment and deliver to customers during the NPI cycle, communicating feedback to IPT.
  • Assist in defining Manufacturing Implementation Plan and transfer of NPI product to low cost plants.
  • Attend IPT meetings and provide status updates on NPI deliverables.
  • Generate regular reports to the IPT and input to the First Build Analysis report to identify issues.
  • Lead staffing decisions, training, and performance management for the team.

Job Purpose

The New Product Introduction (NPI) Manager applies manufacturing and project management knowledge to manage NPI projects in a cross-functional environment. The NPI Manager’s primary responsibility will be to coordinate and drive efforts to meet New Product Introduction deliverables from cross-functional groups.

Nature Of Duties/Responsibilities
  • Working closely with Planning, Operations and Production Control to define and implement build plans throughout the NPI cycle including manufacturing process/test readiness, process/test equipment scheduling, build cycle time and routing assessment, capacity planning and operations resource loading.
  • Initiating, tracking and providing status updates on NPI activities including material readiness, engineering work orders and deviations, build schedule, WIP management and material consumption.
  • Coordinating the implementation of the product documentation and ECOs throughout the NPI cycle ensuring documentation readiness, material availability and the necessary deliverables from cross-functional groups for timely execution of ECOs.
  • Following up on product shipment and delivery to external/internal customers during the NPI cycle, and communicates feedback from customers to the IPT.
  • Supporting the program manager in defining the Manufacturing Implementation Plan and managing the transfer of NPI product to low cost plants.
  • Attending Integrated Project Team (IPT) meetings. Providing status update on NPI deliverables to customer and interacting with counterparts.
  • Generating regular reports to the IPT and/or provide input to the First Build Analysis report to identify issues encountered during the NPI execution process and their impact on the NPI program, such as material flow concerns, build plan conflicts, missing deliverables, product shipment issues, etc.
  • Manages the activities of the team and is responsible for input in staffing decisions, training and development, and performance management of the staff.
Other Job Duties
  • Engaging Operations cross-functional groups to effectively share information and provide direction on NPI program planning, priorities and deadlines.
  • Ensuring the timely closure of corrective actions resulting from the analysis of root causes raised during the NPI execution process, and escalating issues to management as required.
  • Recommending, initiating and implementing continuous improvements in the NPI process end-to-end.
  • Responsibility for effective communications with other functional groups to ensure technical specifications, problems and solutions are communicated and resolved effectively.
Education And Experience
  • Requires a Technical degree or diploma.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Previous experience directing the development and implementation of activities in production areas to meet production goals, quality and cost objectives.
  • Experience managing the activities of a team, including developing schedules and staffing requirements for assigned areas, making staffing decisions, training and development and performance management, including evaluating staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
  • Experience prioritizing production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency and materials supply.
  • Previous management experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
Other Requirements
  • Able to obtain your Controlled Goods Certification, as well as International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) Clearance.
Other Information
  • The compensation range for this position is $70,000-$100,000 annually.
  • This position is for an existing vacancy.
