Job summary

North Bay Regional Health Centre is seeking a compassionate Personal Support Worker/Health Care Aide to join the Inpatient Medicine team on the hospital’s 3rd floor. Patients are admitted from the Emergency Department, with stays typically 1–5 days; caring for acute and rehab patients requires empathy, teamwork, and effective communication.

The successful candidate will be bilingual (Advanced English/French), committed to safety, and able to work collaboratively with the health care team.

Qualifications

  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent required.
  • PSW Certificate or HealthCare Aide Certificate or completion of minimum second semester in a recognized nursing program required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers Certificate required (recent within last 12 months).
  • GPA Certificate an asset.

Job description

Department: Inpatient Medicine

Inpatient Medicine is located on the top floor of the hospital (3rd floor) - Pods C and D. These units are often referred to as Pod C3 and D3. Most patients on this unit are admitted from the Emergency Department while others are transferred from the Critical Care Unit or Surgical Unit. Patients are admitted to Inpatient Medicine for treatment and/or monitoring of a medical condition and can expect a stay of 1 - 5 days.

QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent required
  • Personal Support Worker Certificate, HealthCare Aide Certificate or completion of minimum second (2nd) semester in a recognized nursing program required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
  • Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an asset
Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent level of interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to work as a collaborative member of the health team required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision required
  • Ability to meet the physical demands required to provide care to acute/rehab patients required
  • Must be a motivated, flexible and organized individual with patience, tact and an understanding of the special needs of the elderly
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education required
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers and visitors
  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
  • Good attendance and work record required
  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
