Candidates selected for this position will be included in Hydro One's New Grad development program. Our New Graduate program reflects our long-term commitment to invest time and resources to build the best and brightest team. The two-year program offers a permanent position from Day 1, a combination of training and coaching, and the ability to rotate through several roles allowing New Grads to gain experience working on different projects and in different environments.

  • You have graduated with your bachelor's degree in 2024, 2025 or will graduate by May 2026
  • Or, you are currently completing a master's degree in a related field, you are graduating by May 2026, and have a maximum of 1 year between completing your bachelor's degree and enrolling in your master's program.

Engineering Services - Transmission and Stations Engineering

Transmission and Stations Engineering provides multi-disciplinary engineering and drafting services to support Hydro One’s capital work program. Transmission and Stations Engineering is split across four engineering disciplines – Stations, Protection & Control, Telecom, Transmission Lines and supported by the Engineering Enablement Team. Our team provides a full range of engineering services including feasibility studies, conceptual engineering, estimating, failure analysis, Protection, Control & Metering design, CADD Support, technical authority roles and support to our Planning, Operating and Field Organizations.

We are looking for 1 Electrical Engineering New Grad in our Protection and Control department.

The Protection and Control team is responsible for the engineering and design of protection, control and metering schemes of electric power system and its components such as: lines, transformers, power circuit breakers, etc.

In this role you will
  • Learn Protection, Control and Metering of power system components
  • Develop skills related to providing protection, control engineering design
  • Develop the ability to analyze complex problems
  • Providing technical support related to applied designs and equipment
  • Learn how to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team including other engineering disciplines
  • Learn company policies, procedures and standards that govern complete P&C design
Duties may include
  • Prepare engineering design, specifications and estimates associated with Protection & Control systems and equipment.
  • Provide protection, control engineering design for power system elements (e.g. line protection, transformer protection, feeder protection, etc.), guided by a senior engineer
  • Assist other engineers with projects of greater complexity
  • Assist the other engineers with relay settings files, including programming of protection and control logic settings
  • Get involved in the SCADA system design and metering system involving wholesale revenue metering scheme and other ancillary system in accordance with the appropriate Standards and Regulations, such as IESO, NPCC, NERC, etc.
  • Assist the senior engineers with preparation of logic diagrams utilizing electrical design tools such as AutoCAD
  • Providing technical support related to applied designs and equipment

Job Requirements
  • Must meet New Grad Program Eligibility Requirements
  • University Degree - Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Required Courses: Electrical Engineering Design, Power system fundamentals, High Voltage Engineering and Power System Protection, Power system analysis, Circuits, Signals and systems Courses
  • Previous co-op experience in a relevant field and industry is considered an asset
