New Grad Program

Candidates selected for this position will be included in Hydro One's New Grad development program. Our New Graduate program reflects our long-term commitment to invest time and resources to build the best and brightest team. The two-year program offers a permanent position from Day 1, a combination of training and coaching, and the ability to rotate through several roles allowing New Grads to gain experience working on different projects and in different environments.

Program Eligibility
  • You graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2024, 2025, or will graduate by May 2026.
  • Or, you are currently completing a master’s degree in a related field, you are graduating by May 2026, and have a maximum of 1 year between completing your bachelor’s degree and enrolling in your master’s program.
  • Good Academic Standing (A copy of your Official or Unofficial Transcript).
  • Valid, permanent driver’s license (Ontario Class G).
Environmental Services

We are seeking 4 New Grads within our Environmental Services team. This role will report to the Manager or Supervisor of Environmental Services. The position will focus on working as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting environmental management throughout the life-cycle of a project. This will include Environmental Assessments, environmental due diligence, environmental protection plans, permitting and monitoring on new electrical infrastructure projects and large maintenance projects throughout Ontario.

General Accountabilities
  • Treat safety as a top priority.
  • Develop and track environmental work plans, budget estimates and schedules.
  • Coordinate environmental studies for infrastructure projects and maintenance programs.
  • Develop contract specifications, evaluate proposals and administer consultant contracts for environmental services.
  • Identify and compare environmental constraints, alternatives, assess potential environmental effects and mitigation measures.
  • Develop plans to mitigate environmental effects with an emphasis on natural heritage, groundwater, cultural heritage and soils.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, project stakeholders and public to support environmental assessments, approvals and permitting.
  • Prepare reports, documentation and presentation materials related to environmental assessments, approvals and permitting.
  • Conduct site visits, evaluate features and issues, prepare environmental protection plans for construction.
  • Review Contractor Environmental Management Plans.
  • Monitor environmental aspects of stations and lines capital projects in the field.
  • Document, organize and file project information within existing systems.
  • Provide advice, guidance and assistance to project and asset managers regarding environmental aspects, applicable legislation and guidelines.
  • Prepare and present technical and organizational information to internal or external groups.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria
  • Four-year university degree in environmental science, engineering, studies, planning, natural sciences or a related field.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • Flexibility and adaptability regarding changes to the work.
  • Requires overnight absences from home from time to time for site visits and meetings, and may require travel throughout Ontario.
  • Knowledge and experience in environmental planning, coordinating and conducting environmental assessments and field planning and monitoring on linear infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in the area(s) of environmental planning, natural heritage, cultural heritage, permitting, contract management and monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of natural environment features and ecosystems for environmental planning and mitigation.
  • Strong understanding of environmental issues and legislative requirements from Ontario environmental legislation.
  • Understanding of soil and groundwater assessment, site remediation and mitigation of designated substances.
  • Experience undertaking environmental studies in natural heritage, hydrology, hydrogeology, socioeconomic, archaeology, heritage and related fields.
  • Experience with environmental permits, licenses, approvals and associated guidelines, standards and best practices.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities and members of the public.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ArcGIS or mapping software.
  • Ability to tender and monitor environmental consultant contracts.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain, walking longer distances and working outside during inclement weather may be required.
  • Ability to independently travel to local or remote sites, communicate with construction or other stakeholders and evaluate situation and develop/implement mitigation plans.
  • Strong technical writing for preparation of environmental management reports, manuals, specifications and tender documents.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Windows software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Requires a high level of initiative, strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong team player and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to assimilate new tasks and apply skills to various situations.
  • Ability to understand the business implications of decisions and strive to improve organizational performance.
