Job summary

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled Acute Care Neurosurgeon with a spine subspecialty for a dynamic practice at Royal Columbian and Eagle Ridge Hospitals. Completion of a Canadian neurosurgery residency and spine fellowship are preferred; FRCSC and licensing in BC are required.

The role includes on-site and telehealth consultations, participation in MOCAP, and collaboration with UBC for faculty appointments. Anticipated start is Oct 1, 2026 with a closing date of Sept 15, 2026.

Qualifications

  • CMPA or CPSBC eligible.
  • FRCSC.
  • Completion of a recognized Neurosurgery residency program in Canada; fellowship training in spine would be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inpatient and outpatient consultations for spinal problems, including on-site and telehealth.
  • Coordinate with RCH trauma service for spinal injury management.
  • Provide daytime neurosurgical call for FHA related to spine; hours to be determined.
  • Perform urgent inpatient spine surgeries and assist other neurosurgeons as appropriate.

Job description

Role and Facility Information

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Acute Care Neurosurgeon with a subspecialty interest in Spine to join our surgical team. This position is in offers a dynamic practice environment, dividing operative time between Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) - a major tertiary referral and trauma centre, and Eagle Ridge Hospital (ERH). Completion of a recognized Neurosurgery residency program in Canada and fellowship training in spine surgery would be preferred.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative group of surgeons dedicated to providing high-quality neurosurgical care to the rapidly growing population of the Fraser Valley.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inpatient consultation/documentation including in-person (on-site), virtual/telehealth consultation and telephone advice regarding patients presenting with spinal problems.
  • Be available for consultation/documentation from the RCH trauma service regarding management of spinal injuries.
  • Will cover daytime neurosurgical call for FHA for neurosurgery spine. Hours of coverage to be determined by discussion. (8:00-12:00), (8:00-16:00), days/week to be discussed.
  • Portion of MOCAP on-call stipend to be reallocated to this position.
  • Conduct surgery on urgent inpatients (inpatient 2A) priority.
  • May participate as a surgical assist for other neurosurgeons during spinal surgery as appropriate.
  • Provide inpatient neurosurgical care on these same patients seen/admitted.

Additionally, as a member of the Fraser Health medical staff, you will participate in the University of British Columbia (UBC) medical education program and are expected to apply for a clinical faculty appointment in the Division of Neurosurgery, UBC.

Compensation
