Implementation Facilities Specialist – Kativik Regional Government
Reports to the Field Operations Coordinator. The Implementation and Facilities Specialist supports and maintains KRG’s telecommunications networks that serve in‑community authorities, businesses, and residences in northern Quebec. The role involves installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting fiber, wireless, and satellite network systems, and assisting with day‑to‑day operations and new service implementations.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair fiber distribution networks (core, FTTH, business links), fixed wireless systems (point‑to‑point/multipoint radios, antennas, RF cabling), mobile wireless (LTE data‑only, WiMAX, NextNet), and fixed satellite links.
- Install and splice fiber drops, Ethernet drops, jacks, cabling, switches, routers, access points and other network components at customers’ premises.
- Troubleshoot signal quality problems and record discrepancies for Network and Field Operations groups.
- Maintain accurate inventory of installed equipment and issue low‑stock warnings.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance on existing network components.
- Coordinate with the Network Operations Center during outages, emergency interventions, and reported problems.
- Participate in evaluation of new technologies and expansion of network systems.
- Maintain site documentation of data and voice networks; help develop diagnostic procedures.
- Carry out any additional tasks requested by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- College diploma in a related technology.
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a telecommunications technician.
- Solid experience with optical fiber installations and/or coaxial cabling.
- Experience with fiber splicer, OTRD, FTTH PON or GPON; knowledge of Calix technologies considered an asset.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve network problems.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in inclement weather (climbing ladders, working on roofs).
- Strong customer‑service orientation; able to explain technical details to customers.
- Meticulous, structured, able to work under pressure; reliable, autonomous, initiative, and good communication skills.
- Proficient orally and in writing in at least two of Inuktitut, English, and French; working knowledge of Inuktitut is a plus.
- Availability to travel; experience living or working north of the 55th parallel is a definite asset.
Work Schedule & Location
Rotation schedules: 6‑week work in Northern Villages (52.5 h weekly) followed by 3‑week paid leave (35 h weekly), or 4‑week work followed by 2‑week paid leave. Place of work: Nunavik, Quebec.
Salary
Minimum $52,482 annual; range $51,077–$86,867 per year, depending on experience.
