Job summary

Weir Canada, Inc. Halifax, NS / LaSalle, QC is seeking a Materials Engineer to join the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE).

You will work with engineers, military personnel, and industry partners to tackle materials and corrosion challenges on naval vessels across the country, including lab testing, field investigations, and shipboard assessments. The role focuses on test planning, data management, and IV&V activities, delivering engineering recommendations to support fleet readiness,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports and correspondence.
• Experience applying materials testing standards such as ASTM, ISO, or AMPP.
• Experience in materials testing, corrosion assessment, failure analysis, or related fields.
• Ability to obtain Government of Canada security clearance (citizenship and residence requirements).

Responsibilities

• Develop test plans for metallic and non‑metallic materials.
• Coordinate laboratory and field testing per ASTM, ISO, AMPP standards.
• Review results and prepare technical reports for stakeholders.
• Provide engineering recommendations to improve equipment reliability and fleet readiness.
• Support IV&V activities and project documentation.
