Job description

We’re looking for Naval Architect Engineers and Technologists to join our growing engineering team at Fleetway. In this role, you’ll be part of a team that provides full-spectrum engineering and technical data management services. You’ll work on projects that directly impact the Navy’s operational readiness—designing, analyzing, and integrating systems that help ensure our fleet is “ready to help, ready to lead, and ready to fight.”

If you’re passionate about naval architecture and want to make a difference in Canada’s marine defense sector, we’d love to hear from you!

We're committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We encourage applicants to self-identify if they belong to an underrepresented group, as part of our commitment to equitable hiring practices and fostering a truly inclusive workforce.

If you require accommodations during the recruitment process, please let us know—we're happy to help.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • A Diploma in Engineering Technology, with a focus in Naval Architecture or a related discipline.
  • 0-7+ years of relevant experience, ideally within the marine or shipbuilding industry.
  • Practical experience in 2D drafting, 3D modeling, and engineering design/integration projects.
  • Engineering candidates must be registered, or eligible to register with their local regulatory body as either an EIT or P.Eng.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in ShipConstructor is considered a strong asset, especially in light of upcoming projects.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Naval Warships or experience working within the defence or shipbuilding sectors is an asset.
Professional Skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with a focus on delivering high-quality work in a dynamic environment.

Due to the nature of our work, successful candidates must be eligible to obtain required government security clearances.

Responsibilities
Design & Documentation
  • Develop and interpret 3D models of equipment, foundations, piping systems (including valves, fittings, hangers), and structural components such as decks and bulkheads for client vessels.
  • Create and interpret 2D engineering drawings, including parts, assemblies, installations, and arrangement drawings (e.g., general arrangements, firefighting key plans, piping diagrams, power system schematics).
  • Conduct technical research using legacy vessel documentation and approved engineering changes to assess system impacts and validate existing records.
Engineering Change Management
  • Support the development and implementation of Engineering Changes (ECs), which may range in complexity depending on client requirements.
  • Manage configuration changes that introduce new capabilities or sustain existing ones, from initial concept through to onboard installation and acceptance.
Analysis & Reporting
  • Perform market research, develop option analysis reports, and determine system requirements.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, impact assessments, and write detailed technical specifications and reports.
  • Carry out engineering analyses, including finite element analysis (FEA), weight assessments, and stability evaluations using tools such as GHS.
Design & Integration
  • Contribute to the development of technical studies, drawings, and specifications for both government and commercial vessels.
  • Participate in systems integration projects, ensuring seamless coordination across disciplines.
  • Select appropriate equipment and materials based on project requirements and performance criteria.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor and support junior team members, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Coordinate, review, and manage the work of other engineers and engineering technologists to ensure quality and consistency.
