A regional education authority in Ontario is seeking a Native Student Advisor to provide personalized support for Indigenous students in a positive educational environment. This role involves working closely with students, families, and the community, requiring a strong understanding of Indigenous culture and the ability to work collaboratively. The position demands commitment to creating an inclusive experience and flexibility in working hours.
Fully Qualified - $27.56 per hour
Partially Qualified - $21.56 per hour
Terms and conditions of employment, including wages, are in accordance with the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU) Local 73 Bargaining Unit.
A position is available for a Native Student Advisor (NSA) in the North Kings Area of the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education, school sites include Northeast Kings Education Centre, Kings County Academy and Glooscap Elementary School. This position will be supporting students of Indigenous ancestry in the Horton Family of Schools, reporting to the Coordinator of Mi’Kmaw Services/Education. This position is for 8 hours per day.
The Native Student Advisor will work directly with Indigenous students to provide support to them and their families in making schooling a positive experience. The goal of the Native Student Advisor is to help students achieve success and remain in school by fostering a positive environment of good will, respect and dignity among students, parents/guardians, teachers and all community members. The Native Student Advisor will be required to work outside of regular school hours in accordance with the Collective Agreement in order to accomplish the goals of the program.
