Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods seeks a National Communications Manager to act as the communication conduit for the National Retail Field Sales team. You will assimilate information to set sales priorities, create a standard communications process, and coordinate with Shopper Marketing, CSD, CBTS, and District Managers to drive priority accounts.

The role requires 5-7 years in Sales/Marketing, strong MS Office skills, and excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Post-secondary education required - business concentration preferred.
  • 5-7 years’ work experience in a Sales or Marketing function.
  • Extremely strong computer skill set (Microsoft Office, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to develop key insights.
  • Strong organization and communication/collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assimilate business needs and align priorities for upcoming selling cycles.
  • Develop the communications plan and information package for Field Sales teams.
  • Ensure standard tools and reporting are in place for field effectiveness.
  • Participate in CBT meetings and transfer information to Field Sales Representatives.
  • Oversee Mobile Briefcase and Encore app data maintenance and accuracy.

Job description

The Opportunity:

As a key member of the National Retail Field Sales team, the National Communications Manager will collaborate with the Shopper Marketing team, CSD team, CBTS, Field Directors and District Managers to serve as the “go-between” and “communication funnel” to and from the Retail Field Sales Team. The National Communications Manager is responsible for assimilating the information required in setting sales priorities for the Field Sales Team to execute in each cycle (i.e., 4 weeks, 8 weeks, or quarterly time frame). The incumbent is required to take initiative in creating a standard communications process, format (communications template) and time cadence, to help support the Field Sales team focus on priority accounts while using the appropriate tools for delivery.

Compensation: $96,000 - $141,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive

The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part‑time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf’s annual short-term incentive plan.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
Field Sales Priorities
  • Assimilate the specific business needs (i.e., Programs, new product launches, promotions etc.) of the category business teams and try to gain alignment on priorities for the upcoming selling cycle
  • Develop the communications plan, including a package containing information crucial for the Field Sales Teams across the country
Sales Tools
  • Work with the CBTs and Marketing to ensure the appropriate standard tools are in place and functioning to ensure a 100% effectiveness for Field Service Representative store calls
  • Responsible for participating in the CBT meetings to ensure that information is transferred to Field Sales Representatives in a timely manner
  • In charge of the Mobile Briefcase and Encore apps. Including the maintenance and fine tuning of information as needed
  • Working with our IT/Market IQ team as the point person to ensure the “POS store by store data” and other reporting is accurate
  • Responsible for all communication to the Operations team regarding Racking, Modular/Planograms, and programs
Business Intelligence
  • Assimilating reports that are gathered from the Field Sales team (e.g., new and core item distribution, display/planogram compliance, etc.)
  • Responsible for the analysis and communication to the Field Sales Management, Executives, CBTs, Marketing teams along with many others in the company
  • Responsible for all compliance reporting that goes into the iPad
  • Responsible for the tracking of all major events throughout the year
Other Responsibilities
  • Works hand and hand with Encore Engagement team
  • In charge of organizing all Regional Field Sales Meetings
  • Responsible for developing themes for meetings
  • Responsible for developing 3 regional contest per year
