Job summary

The City of Greater Sudbury is hiring for a Limited Position as a municipal tractor operator with attachments, stationed at Rayside (Levack area). The role requires operating equipment, following CGS Safety Manual and provincial rules, and may involve additional duties. Start date to follow selection process.

Development opportunity rate applies if minimum qualifications are not yet met. Rate of pay is $31.20 per hour, with 80 hours bi-weekly.

Qualifications

• Secondary School (Grade XII) education required.
• Proven ability to operate a municipal tractor with attachments.
• Some mechanical knowledge to avoid damage to the equipment.
• Ability to read and follow maintenance instructions.
• Excellent use of English, verbally and in writing.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Main Function: Operate municipal tractor with attachments or other similar type equipment.

Characteristic: Under the supervision of a Foreperson.

Duties:

1. 1. Operate municipal tractor with attachments during winter months.
2. 2. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
3. 3. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Training:

• • Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.

Experience:

• • Proven ability to operator a municipal tractor with attachments.
• • Must have some mechanical knowledge to avoid damage to the equipment.

Other Requirements:

• • Ability to read and follow manufacturer’s routine maintenance instructions.
• • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
• • Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
• • May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $29.64 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
