Job summary

GrizzlyTrek Group Ltd. is seeking a Mulcher Operator to join our team in the Fort St. John area of northeast British Columbia.

This full-time role involves operating tracked or wheeled mulchers to clear right-of-ways and lease sites across the Peace Region. You will perform daily inspections, service the machine, and work on marked boundaries with a safety-focused crew. The position requires a valid Class 5 license, first aid, H2S Alive, CSTS 2020, and the ability to work a rotational schedule

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of mulching experience on right of way, lease, or forestry work.
  • Proven ability to run drum or disc mulchers on rough, sloped, and frozen ground.
  • Valid Class 5 driver licence and a clean driver abstract.
  • Current Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, and CSTS 2020 or equivalent site orientation.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude for daily servicing, tooth changes, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work a rotational schedule at remote sites in northeast BC through winter conditions.
  • Physically fit for extended shifts, uneven terrain, and repeated machine entry and exit.
  • Commitment to safe work practices, hazard reporting, and stop work authority.

Responsibilities

  • Operate tracked and wheeled mulching equipment to clear brush, small timber, and slash on right of ways, lease sites, access roads, and utility corridors.
  • Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, log defects, and remove equipment from service when it is not safe to run.
  • Grease, fuel, and service the machine daily, including tooth and tooth holder inspection, hydraulic checks, and track tension.
  • Change mulching teeth and complete minor field repairs to keep the machine producing.
  • Work to marked boundaries, survey stakes, and environmental buffers, holding mulch depth and cut quality to client specification.
  • Communicate with the foreman, spotters, and other operators by radio, maintaining safe working distance from crews, pipelines, and overhead powerlines.
  • Complete field level hazard assessments, tailgate meetings, daily timesheets, and production reports.
  • Support the crew with float loading, tie down, ground work, and site cleanup when the machine is down.

  • Position Type: Full-Time
  • Location: Fort St. John, BC and surrounding Peace Region work sites
  • Schedule: Rotational, typically 14 days on and 7 days off, subject to project requirements
  • Hours: 10 to 12 hours per day, 5 to 6 days per week
  • Compensation: Industry standard, based on experience
  • Experience: 2 or more years operating mulching equipment on right of way, lease, or forestry work

The Role

GrizzlyTrek is seeking one Mulcher Operator to join our valued client's team in the Fort St. John area of northeast British Columbia. This is a full-time position on an established crew clearing pipeline right of ways, lease sites, access roads, and utility corridors across the Peace Region.

You will run a tracked or wheeled mulcher day to day, hold cut spec and boundary lines, and keep the machine serviced and producing. This crew works year round, with strong potential for continued work for operators who show up ready, run clean, and work safe.

What You'll Do
  • Operate tracked and wheeled mulching equipment to clear brush, small timber, and slash on right of ways, lease sites, access roads, and utility corridors.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Class 1 or Class 3 licence with air brake endorsement for equipment moves.
  • Experience on Tigercat, Prinoth, Fecon, Denis Cimaf, ASV, or Caterpillar mulching equipment.
  • Wildfire fuel management, fire guard, or FireSmart experience.
  • Second machine tickets on excavator, dozer, or skid steer.
  • Ground Disturbance Level 2 and Wildlife Awareness training.
Work Environment
  • Outdoor field work in northeast British Columbia, including winter temperatures below minus 30 with wind chill.
  • Remote sites accessed by resource road, with camp or living out allowance where the project requires it.
  • Rotational shifts with early starts, long daylight hours in summer and short daylight in winter.
  • Dust, noise, and vibration typical of mulching work, with wildlife awareness required on all sites.
  • Full PPE at all times: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility clothing, CSA approved boots, and FR coveralls where required.
