Job summary

LifeLabs in Surrey, BC, seeks a detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technologist (Molecular) on a casual basis to perform clinical testing, QC, and instrument maintenance, ensuring timely patient results and adherence to safety and quality standards.

The successful candidate will join BCGEU, with shifts between 6am and midnight, and contribute to continuous improvement within a leading diagnostic provider.

Qualifications

• Registration with CAMLPR or CSMLS certification required.
• Recent experience in the relevant laboratory discipline preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in MS Windows-based systems and laboratory software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical testing and release accurate patient results in accordance with established protocols.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment.
• Conduct and monitor quality control procedures; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Validate new reagent lots and support implementation of new methods and instrumentation.
• Utilize laboratory information systems for specimen processing, test management, and result reporting.
• Participate in external proficiency testing and post‑software upgrade validations.
• Maintain expertise in specimen handling, critical values, rejection criteria, storage requirements, and test‑specific protocols.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards, safety policies, WHMIS, and chemical hygiene regulations.
• Support team effectiveness through training, documentation updates, and process improvement initiatives.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
