Job summary

Stantec seeks a Mission Critical Design Engineer to work independently and with a team on land development projects in the Edmonton region. You will deliver design drawings for site grading, utilities, and stormwater while coordinating with offsite roadway and environmental disciplines.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree; PE/APEGA is preferred. Five+ years in land development, strong communication, and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D are valued as part of a collaborative, QA/QC focused

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Professional Engineer (APEGA) preferred but not required.
• 5+ years of land development experience; Edmonton area preferred.
• Strong collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and delivery of design drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering drawings for site grading, water, sanitary, storm sewer, and shallow utilities.
• Coordinate with offsite roadway, water/wastewater, and environmental teams on design deliverables.
• Perform technical reviews of design drawings and prepare construction specifications.
• Provide internal peer review of designs and interface with construction teams.
• Develop design procedures and ensure QA/QC compliance on mission critical projects.

Your Opportunity

The role of the Mission Critical Design Engineer is to work independently and as a team member on projects of various size and complexity. The selected candidate will be responsible for design delivery and to collaborate with other disciplines. The projects that a Mission Critical Design Engineer may be assigned to may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge.

The Stantec Alberta North Community Development group provides services within the City of Edmonton and surrounding region, City of Red Deer, as well as central and northern Alberta.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Be responsible for the Engineering drawings encompassing site grading and site servicing including water distribution, sanitary sewers, storm water management, shallow utilities coordination, and erosion control design.
• Coordinate with various technical disciplines, including but not limited to, offsite roadway design, offsite water and wastewater infrastructure, and environmental services, on delivery of design drawings and technical requirements.
• Technical review of engineering design drawings.
• Preparation of construction specifications.
• Provide internal peer review of designs by other engineers/technologists.
• Interface between projects’ design and construction teams.
• Review construction submittals to ensure adherence with the design drawings.
• Work closely with the field review team to assist in technical design queries.
• Develop design procedures and best practices for Mission Critical projects.
• Ensure projects meet applicable specifications and standards as per the governing municipality and adhere to Stantec’s QA/QC program.
• Coordinate work of junior engineering team members and review their deliverables.
• Patriciate in other land development projects, such as residential and commercial, to support the overall Community Development team as needed.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Must have a thorough understanding of land development (including site grading, sanitary and storm sewer servicing, water servicing, shallow utility coordination, roadways, lot design, as well as stormwater management).
• Must be a self-motivated individual possessing strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must exhibit attention to detail and accuracy.
• Must be able to coordinate engineering requirements with planning and landscape architecture requirements.
• Must work well in a team environment and have a collaborative approach.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and BlueBeam.
• A working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is an asset.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA is preferred, but not required.
• Experience in the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of related land development experience is preferred.

Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
