Job summary

The Canadian Cancer Society in Calgary is seeking a Senior Manager, Mission Communications (1-Year Contract) to lead strategic communications across mission programs and support services. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communications, you will guide multi-channel campaigns, advise senior partners, and mentor a small team to drive revenue and public engagement.

Qualifications

• Post-second degree or diploma in communications, public relations, political or social science, public health, journalism or related field.
• At least 5–10 years of progressive experience in communications strategy with focus on advocacy, research or support services communications.
• Knowledge of federal, regional and provincial government processes and advocacy, lobbying, media relations and community engagement tactics.
• Extensive knowledge of research or science communications.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Bilingualism (French/English) is highly preferred for nationwide operations.

Responsibilities

• Drive development, execution and evaluation of strategic communications plans to support CCS missions.
• Serve as trusted advisor to CCS teams and stakeholders.
• Identify emerging communications needs and opportunities for improvement.
• Provide strategic communications and issues management counsel.
• Support advocacy activities with effective communications strategies.
• Guide research and revenue-focused communications to raise profile and impact.
• Lead and mentor a team of communicators; foster high-performance culture.
• Develop tools and collateral to align narratives and reinforce CCS branding.
