Job description
JOB PURPOSE

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides quality patient care (planning, implementing, and evaluating) within the scope of professional nursing practice to patients and families across the Women and Children’s Health Network including but not limited to antepartum care, care of the labor patient, post partum, neonatal and pediatrics in accordance with the vision, mission and values of Horizon Health Network Miramichi Area. Although primarily assigned to obstetrics/peds, may be reassigned to other units in the hospital as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current registration with NANB
  • Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support and recertified yearly as a condition of employment
  • Certified in IV Therapy and CVAD in compliance with hospital policies and procedures
  • The successful candidate will be awarded to the most senior applicant who has at least two years’ experience in Labor and Birth or Pediatrics with willingness to complete education and cross training promptly. If there is no experienced candidate, consideration will be given most senior staff with the following considerations:
  • Certified in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or willing to obtain at first opportunity
  • Certified in 20-hour Breast Feeding course or willing to obtain within two months
  • Certified in Fetal Health Surveillance in Labour or willing to obtain at first opportunity, with plans to complete Labor and Birth training
  • Certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or willing to obtain at first opportunity
  • Proof of up-to-date Immunization status
  • Escorts patients requiring ambulance transfers to another facility
  • Physically capable of performing assigned duties. Must be capable of working 12-hour shifts, days and nights, holidays, and weekends throughout the year
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Demonstrated adherence to legislation and MRHA Confidentiality Policy to ensure all patients, business, financial and employee information is accessed on a need-to-know basis
  • Patient Safety is a critical aspect of quality healthcare. Successful candidates must be accountable for creating a culture of safety, working as a team, communicating effectively, and responding to adverse events
