Summary
The Mining Technical Director for Autonomous Operations will report to the Sr. Director Autonomous Operations, AMERICAS and is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the Autonomous Operations within the focused industries of Mining or specific discipline areas. This includes aligning the strategic direction for the business, pursuing and winning work, managing resources, managing a team of technical resources with expertise in all aspects of autonomous and automated projects throughout the Americas. The Technical Director will be responsible for vertical P&L through successful project delivery and operational area, building regional multi-discipline, and appropriately skilled delivery teams, and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
Strong LEBIT management and growth, Operational Excellence, team capacity and talent development, client and market focus to drive increased sales, collaborating with wider Worley Consulting and Base Business to develop integrated offerings will be required.
This role covers Canada, US and LATAM business.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Regional leadership and Digital COE to adopt and deploy vision and strategy in key markets.
- Manage a team with a focus on LEBIT growth targets, talent development, and capability growth.
- Drive customer and market focus towards increased sales with growth targets. Strong Doer / Seller is critical to the growth and success of your team.
- Collaborate and develop integrated offerings with Worley Consulting.
- Provide regional reporting to support pipeline growth and operational performance.
- Deliver short to mid‑term complex digital customer engagements, typically of multiple weeks duration, that may involve identification of user requirements, solutioning, implementation, change management, value realization and the potential involvement of other digital practices and/or other Worley Consulting practices.
- Lead and manage teams of varying size depending on scope, including a mix of full‑time employees, contractors and global workshare team to successfully execute the above activities and achieve targets.
- Close deals as a result of a customer engagement, including navigating the client decision‑making process, involving and interacting with decision‑makers and influencers, and overseeing and preparing proposals and contracts.
- Accountable for specific success metrics, including sales targets, sales and project process compliance and practice LEBIT targets, and always looking for opportunities to propose alternative commercial models to meet customer needs and improve Worley’s financial position.
- Assist with sales pursuits, including, but not limited to, sales meetings attendance, assisting in responses to RFP, and conducting short engagements designed to frame a client’s problem statement, plan and sell an engagement, develop initial client relationships, and demonstrate credibility.

What you will bring
Technical and Industry Experience
- Industry experience with process or mine automation as an owner, vendor, or system integrator in the mining vertical (underground, open pit, processing, etc.) is a requirement for this role. Preferred candidates will have experience with autonomous fleet deployments and/or process automation of mining and/or processing plant infrastructure.
- Program/Project management experience, with a focus on performance improvement and operations strongly preferred.
- Facilitating workshops, client discovery meetings, strategic advisory / consulting with client is key to developing your business.
- Driven, high energy, presence/gravitas, intelligent but practical, people person.
- Proven ability to attract, retain and develop talent.
- Demonstrable experience with targeting and selling through networking.
- Able to interact and influence at any level of a client organization, including Executives and Staff.
- Able to think outside of the box; innovative; flexible and decisive.
- Keeps informed on ongoing technological developments with a keen sense of when evolving technology is ready to be implemented at scale.
- Must have 10-15 years of experience in delivery of projects involving application of Advanced Automation technologies and develop of integrate multi technology solutions as mentioned above.
- Experience running a P&L would be ideal, having a strong understanding of the fundamentals of P&L management, dynamics and analysis would suffice.
- Willing to travel an average of 25-30%.
- Excellent analytical and research skills, attention to detail, intellectual rigor.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Excellent business/commercial acumen and ability to relate to C‑Suite concerns and drive customer engagements.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Instrumentation Computer Systems, mechanical, or chemical). Must be eligible to obtain a P.Eng. or a P.E. license where the role is based.
- MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is CA$216,210 to CA$317,956.
