Job summary

Peter Lucas Project Management Inc. in Edmonton seeks a senior quantitative analyst to model energy markets and optimize asset portfolios.

You will liaise with plant operations and analyze market fundamentals to plan outages while running proprietary models. Qualifications

  • Minimum a bachelor degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, or finance.
  • Graduate degrees and CFA/FRM preferred.
  • 5+ years building and running quantitative models.
  • Experience pricing gas and power commodities and portfolio optimization.
  • Proficient in Python, R and data analysis; machine learning.
  • Advanced finance, portfolio theory, risk management, statistics.
  • MS Office including Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with plant operations to understand fleet nuances and unit specifics.
  • Analyze market fundamentals to plan asset outages.
  • Run and maintain proprietary analytical models to support decision making including scheduling plant outages.
  • Develop pricing models and tools for standard physical and financial energy products.
  • Price and structure sophisticated customized products and services.
  • Conduct analytics, modeling, reporting and compliance for the origination team.
  • Collaborate with commercial functions to optimize portfolio value.
  • Support responses to commercial opportunities with market intelligence on customer needs.
  • Communicate complex outcomes clearly and concisely.

Job description

  • Regular liaising with plant operations to understand the complex nuance of our fleet and specific units.
  • Analyzing market fundamentals in order to optimally plan asset outages.
  • Running and maintaining S&T’s proprietary analytical models to support decision making including scheduling plant outages.
  • Developing pricing models and tools for standard physical and financial, conventional, renewable, retail and wholesale energy products.
  • Pricing and structuring more sophisticated customized and tailored products and services.
  • Conducting the varied analytical, modeling, reporting and compliance requirements of the origination team, including customer energy consumption and tariff analysis, budget preparation, product development and pricing, corporate business and market reporting.
  • Working alongside commercial functions to help optimize portfolio value.
  • Supporting the development of Capital Power’s responses to commercial opportunities by developing, maintaining and disseminating market intelligence associated with customer needs and prospective solutions.
  • Ability to take complex outcomes and clearly and concisely communicate outcomes and recommendations.
What you must have:
  • Minimum a bachelor degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, or finance
  • Preference towards graduate degrees, CFA, FRM or other financial designation holders
  • 5+ years of building, maintaining and running quantitative models.
  • Experience with modeling gas and power commodity prices and outcomes.
  • Experience in pricing commodity products and asset / portfolio optimization
  • Proficient ability to gather, collate, and analyze large amounts of data using Python, R, and other languages/toolsets. Application of algorithmic methods / machine learning
  • An advanced understanding of finance, portfolio theory, risk management principles and statistics.
  • Advanced application skills related to MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, PowerBI).

Salary/Rate Range: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00
