Williams Operating Corporation - Barrick Gold located near Marathon in Northwestern Ontario presently requires a:

Mine Planner

Position Description:

As a member of the Mine Planning team, the successful candidate will report to the Senior Production Engineer and work a rotational roster of either 7:7 or 14:14, 12 hours shifts. This role will require an individual who is safety driven and safety conscious, and capable of working with a diverse team of technical services staff, underground operations personnel, production geologists, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated and have a proven commitment to workplace safety and leadership. They will have the opportunity to gain experience, and grow their career in the following areas:

  • Production planning (drill, blast, backfill)
  • Ventilation
  • Survey
  • Projects
  • Short-term and mid-term scheduling

Key accountabilities regardless of work area are as follows:

  • Proven commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ensure effectiveness and safe productivity of the mine.
  • Work collaboratively with mine production and geology departments and assist other functional areas to achieve their objectives.
  • Facilitate conceptual meetings for mine design.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure practicality of designs.
  • Optimize ore recovery through safe and efficient mining.
  • Develop a good understanding of the underground operating conditions, in order to provide safe and reasonable recommendations regarding mine planning inputs.
  • Visit underground active mining areas on a regular basis.
  • Assist with updating mine planning standards and procedures.
  • Assist with special projects that arise as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering; Mine Technologist diploma or equivalent will also be considered.
  • Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer or equivalent.
  • Experience in an underground mining environment is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Deswik mine planning software considered an asset.
  • Strong computing, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with geology, engineering, and production personnel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on safety and collaboration.
  • Organized, motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail and high performance standards.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced mine production environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and basic data entry software.
  • Ability to work independently underground with minimal supervision.
  • Physically capable of performing underground fieldwork, including walking steep grades and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license required; ability to operate manual transmission is considered an asset.

This is a DIDO position available for either a 7 day on/7 day off or 14 day on/14 day off rotational schedule, working 12-hour day shifts. The successful candidate will be eligible for camp accommodations as well as a DIDO travel allowance in line with our company policy.
