Qualifications

The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

Millwright

The Millwright safely installs, maintains, troubleshoots, overhauls and repairs stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment throughout the mine and milling operation. The Millwrights work collaboratively with the team to deliver execution of the integrated plan and schedule.

Key Responsibilities
  • Area 1: Safely installs, maintains, troubleshoots, overhauls and repairs stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment throughout the mine and milling operation.
  • Read manufacturer manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Install, align, dismantle, overhaul, and move stationary industrial machinery, component, and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, agitators, conveyors, furnaces, samplers, and generators according to layout plans and manuals.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as bridge overhead cranes, jacks and telehandlers to position machinery and components during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery.
  • Inspect and examine tools, machinery, and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain production machinery, power transmissions, belt conveyors, compressors, vacuums, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls.
  • Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts.
  • Clean, inspect, get temperature readings, lubricate, and perform other routine or preventative maintenance work on machinery.
  • Replace wear liners in chute, mills, crusher and feeders.
  • Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.
  • Keep training certification up to date and operate equipment you have been trained on safely.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and used in accordance with company health and safety standards.
  • Use and populate CMMS software to create work requests, track comments, order material, and enter time spent on tasks.
  • Actively participate in job safety analysis to contribute to a safer work environment.
  • Clean the work environment, workshop, and dispose of hazardous material according to applicable policies and legislations.

  • Coordinate with other team members on site to meet shift deliverables.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Be a visible leader in health and safety by sharing your knowledge and experiences with all workers.
  • Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
  • Ensure equipment logs and shift logs are accurate and complete.
  • Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow up.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents

  • College diploma in industrial mechanic (millwright) or another related field.
  • Ontario Provincial or Inter-Provincial Industrial Mechanic Millwright License is preferred.
  • Apprentices may be considered in accordance with business and legislative requirements.
  • CWB all position welding certification considered an asset.

Work experience - Nature & Length

  • A minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Previous experience in open pit mining or mineral processing (specifically gold processing) is considered an asset.

Additional qualifications - Competency requirements

  • Proficiency in computer applications and maintenance software.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
