Mill Operations Trainer

Reporting to the Mine Training Superintendent, the role of a Mill Trainer is to ensure that all Mill Operations and Maintenance employees have the necessary training(s) required to perform their duties. The Mill Trainer must ensure training is in compliance with legislative requirements (OH&S Regulations, Explosives Act, etc.) and conformance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities
Area 1: Use of training support

Provide training support to on site personnel.

  • Establish and maintain communications with all stakeholders of the operation (workers, supervisors, department heads, etc.) to ensure training needs are identified and addressed promptly and risks associated with the business are reduced to build a safe, cost‑effective, and productive operation.
  • Identify training needs for Mill Operations and Mill Maintenance employees.
  • Contribute to the research and development of training materials and ensure that the content is relevant and supportive of the course and the training program.
  • Schedule and deliver safe and effective classroom, practical, and follow‑up operational and mill‑specific safety training to both Mill Operations employees and Mill Maintenance employees in a timely manner.
  • Schedule and deliver Control Room training to Control Room Operators and Supervisors.
  • Mentor and coach employees in the safe, effective and productive operation of all mill operating areas and mill mobile equipment.
  • Schedule field visits to follow up on operator progress and give feedback and direction where required.
  • Provide direction and mentoring to field Coaches who assist with training.
  • Maintain accurate records of training events and provide training reports and summaries as needed (course outlines, attendance & evaluations).
  • Ensure all training is in compliance with legislative requirements, and in conformance with company policies, and Impact and Benefit Agreements (IBA).
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of effective and comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for inter‑departmental functions.
  • Participate in the periodic review & evaluation of existing equipment / policy / procedures / practices and make recommendations and implement approved improvements.
  • Deliver orientations and specialized certification training as required.
  • Facilitate and present additional internal training programs targeting the improvement of operator knowledge and skills as well as soft‑skill development and policy/procedure training.
  • Demonstrate courageous, safety leadership; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedure compliance to site OHS standards; participate in safety initiatives, hazard identification, toolbox meetings and incident investigations where required.

Area 3: Team Collaboration

Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.

  • Coordinate with other team members on site to meet shift deliverables.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
  • Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow-up.
  • Provide assistance in ensuring production goals are achieved by working collaboratively with the operating departments.
  • Liaise with the safety department to ensure that both technical and safety training requirements are being met for employees.
  • Participate in multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements and Nice‑to‑Haves
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • MTCU mill common core and specialty modules.
  • Train‑The‑Trainer Certification is considered an asset.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is considered an asset.
Work Experience – Nature & Length
  • Thorough understanding of gold mill process plant operations.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a gold process plant operations.
  • Ability to evaluate training requirements and understand the need for continuous improvement.
  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is considered an asset.
  • Well organized; works well independently and in a team setting; possesses good time‑management skills and is able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems.
  • Competency with MS Windows and MS Office applications: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
