Gowest Gold Ltd. seeks a Mill Operations Superintendent for the Redstone Mill, located southeast of Timmins, Ontario. You will lead daily mill operations, supervise teams, and ensure safe, compliant production while driving efficiency and cost improvements.

Qualifications

Since 2009, Gowest Gold has expanded its land holdings to over 120 square kilometres in the prolific Timmins gold camp. POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Mill Manager, the Mill Operations Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of mill operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production. This role provides leadership to operational teams, oversees the execution of production plans, monitors performance, and ensures that safety, quality, and environmental standards are consistently achieved. The Mill Operations Superintendent is accountable for optimizing operational performance, resolving day-to-day challenges, and driving continuous improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead day-to-day mill operations, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety protocols are consistently met.
  • Monitor and improve safety performance for employees and contractors, ensuring corrective actions are completed promptly.
  • Respond to emergencies and unusual operating conditions to protect personnel, production, and the environment.
  • Lead and participate in risk assessments, incident investigations, and ensure preventive measures are applied.
  • Participate in the creation, review, and implementation of policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Provide expert operational knowledge to assist the Mill Manager in achieving production and cost objectives.
  • Monitor operational performance, analyze data, and make adjustments to meet or exceed targets.
  • Identify, plan, and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety and environmental performance.
  • Lead and actively contribute to the mill growth program and efficiency improvement projects to optimize operational performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Encourage continuous improvement initiatives across the operations team.
  • Support mill strategy by contributing to planning, budgeting, and development of operational goals.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities to operations personnel.
  • Provide clear objectives, expectations, and feedback to support performance and production targets.
  • Work closely with maintenance teams to prioritize work orders and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance plans are followed.
  • Control operating costs including power, consumables, reagents and labour.
  • Track expenditures and identify cost- saving opportunities.
  • Ensure employees have appropriate training, resources, and equipment to operate safely and efficiently.
  • Participate in the recruitment of candidates for operations and contribute to hiring decisions, ensuring personnel are competent in safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance work environment.
  • Develop and maintain strong community relations, including engagement with First Nation communities, ensuring compliance with Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs) and promoting positive partnerships.
  • Act as a liaison for external stakeholders, maintaining professional relationships with regulatory agencies, contractors, and other key partners to support operational and community objectives.
  • Coordinate shift schedules and labour allocation to meet production requirements.
  • Keep the team informed of safety, production, and cost performance metrics to encourage engagement and improvement.
  • Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation, and commitment to achieving an accident-free operation.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts, regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Post‑secondary degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in milling or processing operations.
  • 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role overseeing mill operations, shift supervisors, and plant staff.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and their application in a mill setting.
  • Knowledge of process control systems and operational software used in mill operations.
  • Experience in planning, scheduling, and coordinating daily production activities.
  • Ability to interpret metallurgical and operational data to identify trends, optimize processes, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Experience in implementing continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency projects.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost control, and resource management in an industrial operation.
  • Familiarity with risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety management systems.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including experience liaising with cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements and corporate policies.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • The role is located at the Redstone Mill, which is approximately 35 kilometers southeast of Timmins, Ontario, Canada.
  • This posting is for a future opportunity with Gowest Gold and does not represent an immediate vacancy.
  • The ideal for the role will work a schedule of 5 days on and 2 off, 8-hour days.
  • Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
