Project Summary: Cloud Platform Services

The Cloud Program's Cloud Platform Services supports the Government of Alberta's (GoA) fully integrated cloud products, including Cloud Landing Zones and Microsoft 365 (M365) services. This role is critical for enabling GoA staff to work collaboratively and efficiently while continuously improving and developing these essential cloud services.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Team Lead, GoA Messaging Services, the Senior Messaging Specialist will be responsible for the advanced configuration, maintenance, support, and optimization of the GoA's core cloud messaging and collaboration workloads. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, problem‑solving skills, and a commitment to service excellence, ensuring adherence to Service Level Targets (SLTs) for incident, change, and problem management.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Service Delivery & Support: Fulfill incident, change, and problem tickets related to Microsoft 365 workloads (Exchange Online, MS Teams, M365 Defender, M365 Purview, etc.) in accordance with defined SLTs.
  • Optimization & Architecture: Provide expert recommendations for optimizing the configuration of MS Teams, Exchange Online, Microsoft Defender, MS Purview, and other cloud solutions, including resource requirements, dependencies, and policy implications.
  • Operational Enhancement: Apply and interpret operational guidelines to enhance the department’s way of doing business.
  • Service Evaluation: Review new services and technology requests, assess their impact on the operational environment, and recommend remediation actions.
  • Implementation & Troubleshooting: Hands‑on implementation, upgrading, troubleshooting, and problem diagnosis/resolution for messaging software and hardware infrastructure.
  • Documentation & Training: Develop and maintain technical documentation, create messaging‑related procedures, and provide effective cross‑training and knowledge transfer to team members.
  • Planning & Quality Control: Assist in developing action plans, schedules, and estimates for architectural deployment and service delivery. Provide quality control on production implementations.
  • Reporting: Provide tracking and reporting of time and status on all work as required.
  • Collaboration: Maintain effective teamwork and proficient communication with team members, management, and supported ministries.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Exchange/Messaging: Experience designing, planning, implementing, and supporting an Exchange 2016/2019 or Exchange Online environment. 8 years.
  • Email Security: Experience supporting email security services (e.g., anti‑spam, anti‑phishing, M365 Defender). 8 years.
  • Collaboration: Experience supporting Skype for Business or Microsoft Teams in an enterprise environment. 8 years.
  • IT Architecture: Experience with Microsoft architecture, installation, and administration in a large enterprise environment. 8 years.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and/or during block time/change windows outside of standard hours (with advance notice). Yes/No.
Highly Desirable Experience ("Nice to Have")
  • Experience collecting requirements, analyzing, designing, or implementing M365 products (5 years).
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Quest Exchange Migration Wizard (5 years).
  • Experience implementing and supporting Microsoft Teams (5 years).
  • Experience in user identity verification processes and maintaining user IDs (5 years).
  • Experience performing access management activities to Microsoft 365 tenants (5 years).
  • Experience with the creation and implementation of naming standards and usage standards (5 years).
  • Experience performing Information Management related activities like litigation hold and e‑discovery (5 years).
  • Experience with AntiSpam Administration (5 years).
  • Experience migrating from an on‑premise Skype for Business environment to MS Teams (3 years).
  • Experience supporting bulk mail delivery solutions (3 years).
  • Experience working in the Government of Alberta Domain or an enterprise environment (8 years).
  • Experience working in or for the public sector (4 years).
