Job summary

Colas Canada is seeking a highly analytical Mergers & Acquisitions Analyst to support growth through acquisitions, strategic investments, joint ventures, and market intelligence initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, you will identify, evaluate, and execute transactions to strengthen Colas Canada's market position and operational capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, transaction advisory, consulting, corporate finance, valuation, or strategic planning.
  • Experience performing financial modelling, valuation, market analysis, and investment research.
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and financial presentation capabilities.
  • Availability to travel regularly across Canada, representing approximately 10% to 30% of working time.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate potential acquisition targets, joint venture opportunities, and strategic investments.
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, valuation analyses, and investment scenarios.
  • Prepare business cases, investment memoranda, presentations, and executive-level recommendations.
  • Support transaction execution activities, including due diligence coordination, data room management, and stakeholder communication.
  • Conduct financial, operational, commercial, and strategic analyses to identify risks and value-creation opportunities.
  • Assist in negotiation preparation and transaction structuring activities.
  • Support post-acquisition integration planning, synergy tracking, and value-creation initiatives.
  • Monitor market trends, industry consolidation, competitor activity, and emerging strategic opportunities.

We are seeking a highly analytical and commercially curious Mergers & Acquisitions Analyst to support Colas Canada's growth strategy through acquisitions, strategic investments, joint ventures, and market intelligence initiatives.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, with direct exposure to the President of Colas Canada, you will play a key role in identifying, evaluating, and executing transactions that strengthen Colas Canada's market position, geographic reach, and operational capabilities. You will work closely with senior leaders across Finance, Operations, Legal, Human Resources, and our operating companies to support strategic decision-making and long-term value creation.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 12 months, you will:

  • Develop a strong understanding of Colas Canada's operating companies, markets, and growth priorities.
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive pipeline of acquisition and investment opportunities.
  • Deliver accurate valuation models, market assessments, and transaction analyses that support executive decision-making.
  • Contribute effectively to due diligence processes across financial, operational, commercial, and strategic workstreams.
  • Develop strong relationships with operating company leaders, advisors, investment bankers, brokers, and prospective acquisition targets.
  • Support the successful execution and integration of strategic transactions.
What You Will Lead

While this is an individual contributor role, you will take ownership of key workstreams and analyses that support strategic transactions.

  • Conduct industry, market, and competitor research across transportation infrastructure, construction, engineering, aggregates, asphalt, ready-mix, and industrial services sectors.
  • Identify and evaluate potential acquisition targets, joint venture opportunities, and strategic investments.
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, valuation analyses, and investment scenarios.
  • Prepare business cases, investment memoranda, presentations, and executive-level recommendations.
  • Support transaction execution activities, including due diligence coordination, data room management, and stakeholder communication.
  • Conduct financial, operational, commercial, and strategic analyses to identify risks and value-creation opportunities.
  • Assist in negotiation preparation and transaction structuring activities.
  • Support post-acquisition integration planning, synergy tracking, and value-creation initiatives.
  • Monitor market trends, industry consolidation, competitor activity, and emerging strategic opportunities.
  • Maintain confidential transaction files, reporting dashboards, and pipeline tracking tools.
What You Bring
  • 2 to 5 years of progressive experience in investment banking, corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, transaction advisory, consulting, corporate finance, valuation, or strategic planning.
  • Experience performing financial modelling, valuation, market analysis, and investment research.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience building financial models and evaluating business performance.
  • Understanding of valuation methodologies, including discounted cash flow, comparable company analysis, precedent transaction analysis, and return-on-investment metrics.
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and financial presentation capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and confidential environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across functions and levels of the organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Availability to travel regularly across Canada, representing approximately 10% to 30% of working time, depending on business priorities and operational requirements.
Additional Assets
  • Progress toward or completion of a CPA, CFA, CBV, MBA, or other relevant professional designation.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, strategic investments, or corporate development initiatives.
  • Knowledge of construction, transportation infrastructure, engineering, industrial services, aggregates, asphalt, cement, or building materials industries.
  • Familiarity with due diligence processes and transaction execution.
  • Experience working with privately held or owner-operated businesses.
  • Experience using Capital IQ, Bloomberg, PitchBook, Grata, HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar market intelligence platforms.
  • French and English language capability.
