Job summary

A community organization in Alberta is seeking a Mental Health-Cultural Facilitator to guide holistic wellness through traditional practices and cultural programming. Qualifications

  • Recognized as a Knowledge Keeper or Elder within the nehiyaw community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cree traditions, ceremonies, and protocols.

Job description
Job Purpose

The Mental Health-Cultural Facilitator plays an integral role in fostering holistic wellness by guiding and supporting mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being through culturally grounded practices. This position helps reconnect community members with traditional knowledge, language, teachings, and ceremony, strengthening cultural identity and supporting healing and growth. By facilitating a safe and supportive environment, they empower the client to explore and address their mental health or substance use concerns, develop coping strategies, and build healthier relationships. This role includes mentorship, cultural programming, consultation with clinical and program staff, and facilitating traditional teachings across generations. The Mental Health-Cultural Facilitator will support both clients and staff through ceremonies, land-based practices, and community cultural events.

Education, Experience And Requirements
  • Recognized as a Knowledge Keeper or Elder within the nehiyaw community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cree history, traditions, language, ceremonies, medicines, and protocols
  • Experience supporting wellness through traditional and cultural approaches
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and programs
  • Understanding of intergenerational trauma, addictions, healing practices, and cultural revitalization
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with youth, adults, and families
  • Fluency or working knowledge of Cree language is a strong asset
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Training in Naloxone Administration/ Seizure Protocol (or willingness to obtain)
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends when needed.
Working Conditions

Hours of 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, Will be required to work some evenings and weekends when required. While adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
