Job summary

EHN Canada is seeking a Mental Health & Addiction Counsellor II in Toronto to provide individual and group therapy, psychoeducation, and progress assessment for clients and families. The role coordinates with an inter-professional team to develop and monitor care plans and discharge strategies.

You will document thoroughly, liaise with referral sources, and participate in team meetings while supporting practicum students and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counselling-psychology, social work, or related field is required.
• Minimum three-five years of clinical experience.
• CBT, DBT and CPT certification considered an asset.
• Knowledge of the DSM-V, including substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

• Competently manages clients with various substance use disorders and concurrent issues using a trauma-informed approach.
• Works therapeutically with diverse client population through individual and group therapy, process groups, individual and family therapy and assessment as required.
• Delivers psychoeducational sessions to clients and external groups as needed.
• Identifies treatment issues and goals with clients, coordinating across broader clinical teams when appropriate.
• Collaborates in the development, implementation and follow-up of the client care plan and discharge plans.
• Completes detailed documentation and charting appropriately; prepares reports or correspondence in a timely manner.
• Case management of client caseload.
• Participates in regular team meetings and consultations; makes recommendations based on client progress.
• Liaises with referral sources and documents communications.
• Engages in professional development and maintains documentation for HR.
• Acts as a resource for practicum students and other professionals.
• Other duties as assigned.

Overview:

As a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, the primary function of the Mental Health & Addiction Counsellor II will be to provide individual and group therapy, psychoeducational material, and ongoing assessment of progress to clients. Case coordination and communication across an inter-professional team is an integral component of the role. Additionally, the Mental Health and Addiction Counsellor is responsible for communicating with referral agencies, offering support and guidance to clients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Competently manages clients with various substance use disorders and concurrent issues using a trauma-informed approach.
• Works therapeutically with diverse client population through individual and group therapy, process groups, individual and family therapy and assessment, as required.
• Delivers psychoeducational sessions to clients, as well as to public audiences and external groups as needed.
• Identifies treatment issues and goals with clients, coordinating across broader clinical teams when appropriate.
• Collaborates in the development, implementation and follow-up of the client care plan and discharge plans (i.e. continuing care plan).
• Completes detailed documentation and charting appropriately. Prepares reports or correspondence in a timely manner.
• Case management of client caseload.
• Participates in regular meetings and consultation meetings of teams – makes recommendations based on the client’s progress
• Liaises with referral sources, such as aftercare providers, EAP representatives, parole and probation officers, verbally, electronically and/or in writing on a regular basis and documents same.
• Engages in personal professional development, maintains appropriate professional associations, and provides current documentation to the Human Resources Department.
• Acts as a resource person for practicum students and other professionals as assigned
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in counselling-psychology, social work, or related field.
• Minimum three-five years of clinical experience
• Professional experience with individuals experiencing concurrent disorders, such as mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, acute stress disorders, and PTSD.
• Current registration with a regulated professional College (i.e., college of Social Workers, Canadian Certified Counsellor, etc.)
• CBT, DBT and CPT certification considered an asset
• Knowledge of the DSM-V, including substance use disorders.
