  • Use clear, simple communication, visual prompts, gentle cueing, and positive redirection to help residents navigate the dining experience and make meal selections.
  • Observe verbal and nonverbal cues and respond patiently when a resident appears confused, anxious, distracted, or unable to communicate a preference.
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef, Wellness team, and community leadership to support resident satisfaction, nutrition, hydration, and individualized dining needs.
  • Attend pre-meal stand-up and review resident preferences, allergies, diet orders, texture modifications, adaptive equipment, seating plans, and other service instructions before each meal.

  • Clean and sanitize tables, chairs, menus, condiment containers, floors, and dining equipment in accordance with ESL standards.
  • Communicate resident preferences, successful approaches, concerns, and changes in eating or drinking patterns to the Executive Chef and Wellness team to support continuity of care and resident satisfaction.
  • Assist with special events, celebrations, theme meals, and family dining experiences in ways that are engaging and appropriate for residents living with memory loss.
  • Create a strong sense of teamwork and cooperation among Culinary, Wellness, Life Enrichment, and other community team members.
  • May perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.
  • Basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
  • Strong communication, listening, teamwork, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate calmly and respectfully with residents who may have difficulty expressing needs or understanding information.
  • Patience, empathy, flexibility, and a genuine interest in serving older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
  • Ability to recognize and promptly report changes in resident behavior, food or fluid intake, or ability to safely participate in meals.
