Duties

Medical Standards Advisors are licensed physicians who work within the Directorate of Medical Policy (D Med Pol) for the Ottawa location, and within the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre Atlantic for the Halifax location. Their primary responsibility is to assess medical files of CAF members or applicants to determine their medical fitness to serve in the CAF. Using evidence‑based medicine and CAF Medical Standards, the physicians determine appropriate Medical Employment Limitations (MELs) and ensure decisions align with the principles of Universality of Service and Common Enrolment Medical Standards.

Qualifications
  • ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized school of medicine.
  • OC1. Occupational Certification Hold an unrestricted license to practice medicine from a provincial or territorial medical regulatory authority in Canada.
  • EX1. Experience – clinical Significant in this context means a minimum of 5 years clinical experience post‑residency.
