MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT (FULL TIME)

One (1) Full Time Medical Office Assistant position is available in the General Surgery Clinic at Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH).

ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for a dynamic, experienced, and highly-motivated individual to help manage our practice. There will be a senior office manager for help and guidance. The ideal candidate will be proactive, a strong problem‑solver, and capable of taking initiative. You will be responsible for supporting the clinic’s daily operations and contributing to a positive and professional environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answer phone calls, schedule appointments and manage patient inquiries.
  • Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Assist medical staff with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Handle billing and insurance claims processing.
  • Schedule appointments and surgeries within the hospital.
  • Manage day to day issues as they arise, including complaints.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with patients and co‑workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Medical Office Administration program or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelors Degree is preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology and OHIP schedule of benefits.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Basic IT troubleshooting.
  • Typing speed of 50-60 wpm or more.
  • Ability to multi‑task and willingness to take ownership of several clinic responsibilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Impeccable English and multilingualism is an asset.
  • Medical office experience for one year.
  • Microsoft Office competency.
  • EMR (Accuro) competency preferred.
  • Solid planning and organization skills.

HOURS OF WORK
  • 8 hour shift (8-4 or 9-5)
  • Monday to Friday
  • 35 hours per week
  • Weekends as needed

Salary: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour, based on experience
