Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform analytical tests in Hematology and related areas within the CEH campus. You will operate automated and manual systems, ensuring quality results while maintaining confidentiality and professional communication in high-demand situations.

The role requires active NSRMLS licensure, PLI, and availability for shift work, including weekends. Travel as needed; French language skills are considered an asset.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program or equivalent (as determined by NSRMLS).
• Successful completion of the Medical Laboratory Technologist Examination in all five disciplines.
• Active licensure with Nova Scotia Regulator of Medical Laboratory Sciences (NSRMLS).
• Personal Liability Insurance (PLI) required.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical tests and procedures using established protocols in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
• Operate manually and automated instruments connected to computerized information systems.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and communicate results with independent professional judgment.
• Work with limited supervision in emergency, weekend and night scenarios; adhere to quality assurance procedures.

About the Opportunity

The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs analytical tests and procedures offered by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques. The Medical Laboratory Technologist possesses the technical ability and problem-solving skills to perform all tests (both manual and automated) in the clinical and environmental laboratories. Performs laboratory tests with a network of steps and variables according to established protocols and works with little or no supervision in emergency and weekend/night situations. Operates instruments that are often computer integrated and networked and uses computerized information systems. Compares test results to pre-established criteria (reference intervals) and makes decisions regarding the reportability of results, thus exercising independent judgment. Stressful working conditions require the Medical Laboratory Technologist to be tactful, sensitive and able to communicate effectively and professionally. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times as deemed essential by the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct.

Hours

• Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly

Compensation and Benefits

$33.20 - $42.47 hourly
