Nova Scotia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist for a long-term temporary assignment in Northern Zone. The role involves performing analytical tests and operating advanced laboratory instruments with strict QA processes.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program
  • Successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Technologist Examination in all five disciplines
  • Licensure (active) with Nova Scotia Regulator of Medical Laboratory Sciences (NSRMLS)
  • Personal Liability Insurance (PLI) required
  • Ability to work shiftwork (weekends and holidays as required)
  • Willingness to travel when required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs analytical tests and procedures using appropriate methodologies and QA techniques.
  • Operates instruments that are computer integrated and networked and uses computerized information systems.
  • Compares test results to reference intervals and makes decisions on reportability with independent judgment.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Works with little or no supervision in emergency and weekend/night situations.

About the Opportunity

The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs analytical tests and procedures offered by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques. The Medical Laboratory Technologist possesses the technical ability and problem-solving skills to perform all tests (both manual and automated) in the clinical and environmental laboratories. Performs laboratory tests with a network of steps and variables according to established protocols and works with little or no supervision in emergency and weekend/night situations. Operates instruments that are often computer integrated and networked and uses computerized information systems. Compares test results to pre-established criteria (reference intervals) and makes decisions regarding the reportability of results, thus exercising independent judgment. Stressful working conditions require the Medical Laboratory Technologist to be tactful, sensitive and able to communicate effectively and professionally. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times as deemed essential by the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct.

Hours
  • Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
Compensation and Benefits

$33.20 - $42.47 hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
