DREAM Fertility is a fertility clinic in Whitby that assists patients trying to conceive. We are part of the Oshawa Clinic Group. We’re looking for a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join the DREAM Fertility team and contribute to the continued success of our organization.

JOB OVERVIEW:

This position focuses on performing laboratory procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients undergoing fertility care. The laboratory technician ensures accurate and timely processing of samples while maintaining patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality in accordance with regulations. Clinical, technical, and interpersonal skills will be utilized daily. This role requires expertise in operating laboratory equipment, performing phlebotomy, processing blood samples, providing assistance with intrauterine insemination procedures, maintaining strict quality control, and supporting physicians and the healthcare team in delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform venipuncture and collect blood samples from patients for fertility-related testing, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and handling.
  • Prepare patients’ laboratory records, explain sample collection procedures when necessary, verify pertinent medical history, and ensure comfort and understanding throughout the process.
  • Perform a variety of laboratory procedures related to fertility treatments.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as microscopes, incubators, centrifuges, and pipettes.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision in the preparation, handling, and storage of specimens, including blood, semen, and other reproductive samples.
  • Assess sample quality and document findings in accordance with clinic and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain a professional and supportive patient interaction, ensuring patients feel informed and cared for during the process.
  • Accurately document laboratory results and maintain meticulous patient records in the clinic’s electronic system.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Follow all infection prevention and control (IPAC) regulations and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory and communicate supply needs.
  • Ensure all laboratory work meets technical, diagnostic, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in reproductive laboratory science, technology, and best practices.
  • Strictly adhere to PHIPA guidelines and maintain the highest standards of patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new laboratory staff or students as needed.
  • Perform quality control checks and maintain accurate equipment maintenance logs.
  • Support the needs of the organization by adapting to changing departmental priorities and duties.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory technology or phlebotomy program, preferably with experience in reproductive or andrology laboratories.
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) or equivalent, if applicable.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and blood collection techniques.
  • Strong technical skills in operating laboratory equipment and performing microscopic analysis.
  • Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health record (EHR) software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a compassionate approach to patient care.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work in a fast-pace environment.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience (Range: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour).

Additional Information:
  • Hours of work: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with shifts including every other weekend (10 shifts per 2 week pay period with 5 shifts per week).
