Job summary

Shared Health in Manitoba is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support the laboratory's triage, accessioning, and specimen processing under supervision.

The MLA may perform basic procedures including phlebotomy, maintain safety and quality standards, and ensure compliance with regulations. Travel to Ste Anne, St. Pierre, Vita and Niverville as needed; a current criminal records check is required.

Qualifications

• Completed Grade 12 or equivalent, Manitoba standards.
• Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program is preferred.
• CSMLS Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification preferred.

Job description

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

The successful incumbent will also be required to travel to and work in Ste Anne, St. Pierre, Vita and Niverville as needed based on operational requirement. Salary: $30.214 , $31.118 , $32.053 , $32.989 , $34.000 , $35.027

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Charge Technologist or designate, the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) is responsible for assisting the laboratory in its role of sample triaging, accessioning, and processing of specimens. The MLA may also perform some basic routine procedures according to established protocols. Performs phlebotomies according to departmental policy. The MLA will maintain a safe environment in accordance with professional and provincial guidelines and ensure compliance with quality assurance programs and maintain standards put forth by Accreditation. Functions are conducted in accordance with the Mission and Values of Shared Health, current policies and procedures and applicable legislation.

Experience

• Previous related experience preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• Completed Grade 12 or equivalent, Manitoba Standards, is required.
• Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program is preferred.

Certification/Licence/Registration

• Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification preferred.

Qualifications And Skills

• Windows computer environment required.
• Microsoft Office programs preferred.
• Medical terminology preferred.
• Sterile techniques and routine practices preferred.
• 50 – 55 wpm keyboarding skills an asset.
• Apply basic math concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
