Job summary

Groves Memorial Community Hospital is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Laboratory Department. The role requires graduation from an accredited MLAB program and OSMS/CSMLS certification, with proficiency in phlebotomy and ECGs.

The successful candidate will manage LIS for pre- and post-analytical steps and uphold IQMH standards. Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant course
• OSMT certified and/or CSMLS Lab Assistant Certification
• Proficient in phlebotomy and performing ECGs
• Must manage Laboratory Information System (LIS) including both pre and post analytical procedures
• Superior communication, team building, technology and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
• Knowledge of IQMH and Lab Licensing Standards
• Medical background and prior laboratory experience is an asset
• Satisfactory performance and attendance required; references and police check required
• Pre-Employment Health Assessment required

MEDICAL LABORATORY ASSISTANT

(REGULAR PART TIME)

One (1) regular part-time Medical Laboratory Assistant position is available within the Laboratory Department at Groves Memorial Community Hospital.

This position is unionized with the OPSEU – Local 236.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant course
• Ontario Society of Medical Technology (OSMT) certified and/or CSMLS Lab Assistant Certification
• Must be proficient in phlebotomy and performing ECG’s
• Must manage Laboratory Information System (LIS) including both pre and post analytical procedures
• Superior communication, team building, technology and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with many and varied internal and external individuals, groups, and agencies
• Knowledge and compliance with IQMH, and Lab Licensing Standards
• Medical background and previous laboratory experience is a definite asset
• Satisfactory performance and attendance required
• Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date
• Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
• Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired

HOURS OF WORK:

• As per department, available for all shifts, including weekends
• As per Collective Agreement

Salary: $32.59 - $37.26 per hour
