Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Communications, the Media Assistant supports the amplification of First Nations voices in Manitoba through the creation, coordination, and sharing of digital content across AMC’s communication platforms. This role contributes to community-driven storytelling, digital engagement, and advocacy efforts that reflect First Nations priorities. The Media Assistant works collaboratively within the Communications team to ensure timely, consistent, and culturally respectful messaging across social and digital media channels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor the Communications emails and inbox; manage and coordinate calendar invites and scheduling conflicts.
  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging content across AMC’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok).
  • Monitor online engagement and respond to messages and comments in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assist and provide support to the communications team with the development of a monthly organizational newsletter.
  • Support content development, including graphics, short-form videos, and promotional materials using design tools such as Canva, Photoshop, or similar software.
  • Research and write social media posts and digital content highlighting AMC initiatives, events, and advocacy efforts.
  • Track and report on social media analytics, providing insights and recommendations to support engagement and growth strategies.
  • Assist with event promotion, including live social media coverage and post-event content summaries.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure consistent branding, messaging, and tone across all platforms.
  • Maintain an organized digital asset library of photos, videos, and approved content.
  • Stay current with social media trends, platform updates, and digital storytelling best practices.
  • Perform additional communications and administrative support responsibilities as required.
Qualifications: Education & Experience
  • Diploma or degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, Media Studies or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience in communications, media, or social media content creation.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing content across social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok).
  • Strong knowledge of First Nations cultures, communities, and contemporary issues.
  • Strong understanding of social media trends, analytics, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Graphic design and basic video editing skills are an asset.
  • Excellent written communication, proofreading, and research skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • A demonstrated commitment to respectful, community‑centered storytelling and advocacy.
Additional Requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as required.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check upon hire.
