Company: CIA Inspection Inc. (CIA)
Position Type: Full-time

Since 1991, CIA Inspection Inc. (CIA) has been a global pioneer in non-destructive examination (NDE) technologies, specializing in delayed coke drum inspection. We revolutionized the industry by developing custom-built, remotely operated electro-mechanical systems — a standard now adopted worldwide.

As demand for our high-value, specialized services continues to grow, we’re looking for a talented Mechatronics Engineer/Field Inspector to join our agile, close-knit team of professionals. This is your chance to work on cutting-edge systems, travel internationally, and contribute to ongoing R&D and field innovation in a highly specialized field.

About The Role

You’ll be based from a home office in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), working under a flexible schedule that includes travel to oil refineries around the world. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing on-site inspections of delayed coke drums using CIA’s proprietary equipment and methods
  • Analyzing and interpreting inspection data, preparing high-quality technical reports for client delivery
  • Supporting R&D and system development: assist with equipment design, testing, assembly, and troubleshooting
  • Participating in ongoing operational support, logistics, and company-wide initiatives
  • Balancing fieldwork with hands-on involvement in engineering projects and daily operations
What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a highly motivated individual who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about applied engineering in the real world.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree in Mechatronics Engineering preferred; Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degrees also accepted
  • Alternatively, an advanced diploma in a related engineering technology field will be considered
  • Strong background in software, automation, robotics, and electrical systems (vision, motion control, diagnostics)
  • Hands-on skills: mechanical assembly, machining, power tools, heavy equipment operation, field maintenance
  • Excellent project and time management abilities
  • Fluent in written and spoken English with strong presentation skills
  • Must be available to travel 30–40%, with durations of 1–2 weeks (including back-to-back trips if needed)
  • Comfortable with irregular hours, fast-paced field environments, and last-minute schedule changes
  • A proactive, quick-thinking problem solver with a positive team-focused attitude
Valuable Bonus Skills
  • Experience with laser optics, HD digital visual systems, or robotics
  • Knowledge of industrial safety protocols (Confined Space, Fall Protection, CPR, etc.)
  • Prior field experience in oil refining or NDE environments
  • Certifications in NDE, inspection, rope access, or similar field service roles
Requirements
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license and passport (no travel restrictions)
  • Willing to participate in random drug and alcohol testing
  • Active participation in health and safety training programs
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in industrial settings, heights, confined spaces, shift work, and while wearing full PPE
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation package based on experience and performance, with annual bonus potential
  • Flexible work structure and home-office support
  • Comprehensive benefits including:
    • Extended Health & Dental
    • Life, Accident, and Critical Illness Insurance
  • Opportunities for international travel and professional development
  • A dynamic, supportive environment where innovation and autonomy are encouraged
