Job description
Job Overview

We’re looking for Mechanical Engineering Technologists at all stages of their careers to join our growing engineering team at Fleetway. Whether you’re just starting out or bring years of experience, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, supporting the Royal Canadian Navy through the design and delivery of complex marine systems and structures.

In this role, you’ll be part of a team that provides full‑spectrum engineering and technical data management services. You’ll work on projects that directly impact the Navy’s operational readiness—designing, analyzing, and integrating systems that help ensure our fleet is “ready to help, ready to lead, and ready to fight.”

If you’re passionate about mechanical engineering technology and want to make a difference in Canada’s marine defense sector, we’d love to hear from you!

We’re committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Fleetway is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals, including those from underrepresented groups, and we strive to create an environment where everyone feels respected, supported, and empowered to thrive.

We encourage applicants to self‑identify if they belong to an underrepresented group, as part of our commitment to equitable hiring practices and fostering a truly inclusive workforce.

If you require accommodations during the recruitment process, please let us know—we're happy to help.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
  • 0-7+ years of relevant experience, ideally within the marine or shipbuilding industry.
  • Practical experience in 2D drafting, 3D modeling, and engineering design/integration projects.
Technical Skills
  • Familiarity with ShipConstructor is considered a strong asset, especially for upcoming marine‑focused projects.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Professional Skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with a focus on delivering high‑quality work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience working with Naval Warships or within the defence or shipbuilding sectors is considered an asset.

Due to the nature of our work, successful candidates must be eligible to obtain required government security clearances.

Responsibilities
Design & Documentation
  • Develop and interpret 3D models of equipment, foundations, piping systems (e.g., valves, fittings, hangers), and structural elements such as decks and bulkheads for client vessels.
  • Create and interpret 2D engineering drawings, including parts, assemblies, installations, and arrangement drawings (e.g., general arrangements, firefighting key plans, piping diagrams, and power system schematics).
  • Apply technical expertise to review legacy vessel documentation, assess approved engineering changes, and conduct vessel surveys to ensure documentation accuracy.
Engineering Change Management
  • Support and manage Engineering Changes (ECs), tailored to the specific requirements of our defence clients.
  • Lead the integration of ECs, including configuration updates that introduce new capabilities or sustain existing ones, from concept through to onboard installation and acceptance.
Analysis & Reporting
  • Conduct market research, develop option analysis reports, and define system requirements.
  • Perform engineering calculations, impact assessments, and write detailed technical specifications and reports.
  • Select appropriate equipment and materials based on performance, cost, and project needs.
Design & Integration
  • Develop technical studies, drawings, and specifications for both government and commercial vessels.
  • Contribute to systems integration projects, ensuring alignment across disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Perform structural design and analysis to support vessel modifications and upgrades.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and technologists, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
  • Manage, coordinate, and review the work of other engineers and engineering technologists to ensure technical excellence and project alignment.
