Job summary

Hatch in Saskatoon, SK, seeks a high potential Mechanical/Piping Designer Technologist for the Project Delivery Group. You will design 3D models and 2D drawings, contribute to mechanical layouts, and collaborate with engineers on global projects from the Saskatoon office.

The role targets recent graduates with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, and values collaboration, safety, and hands-on problem solving. Travel and site work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Must be working towards graduating in 2027 with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Strong academic record with extracurricular/volunteer involvement.
  • Co-op or internship experience in Mechanical or Piping design is an asset.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley MicroStation, OpenPlant or Design Review CAD is an asset.
  • Understanding of layout development for industrial facilities is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Apply design principles for 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to share results and align with discipline workflows.
  • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical equipment.
  • Gain knowledge of mechanical equipment types, tools, piping systems, and processes.
  • Participate in safety training and site inductions as needed.
  • Perform field verification and provide field support during construction.
  • Willingness to travel and work at other Hatch offices or sites when required.

Hatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated, dynamic Mechanical / Piping Designer Technologistnew graduate with interest in Mechanical design to join the Project Delivery Group, Mechanical team. Reporting to the Mechanical/Piping Discipline Lead Engineer or Discipline Lead Designer you will support projects globally working from theSaskatoon, SKoffice.

The Mechanical groupis comprised of a group of professional engineers, designers and technologists led by a management team that has pioneered renewable power technology globally. We are looking for young designers eager to be involved in complex small and large-scale renewable power projects, and able to demonstrate their keen problem-solving skills in developing practical solutions. The candidate must be a self-motivated individual capable of working both independently and within a team environment.

As the successful candidate, you will:
  • Work independently to apply design principles for 3D models and 2D mechanical equipment, general arrangement drawings of facilities and processes.
  • Work collaboratively to share the results of your work with senior members of the discipline and/or other Hatch groups.
  • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical equipment.
  • Become knowledgeable of various mechanical equipment, various design tools, piping system design, discipline workflows, and industrial components/processes.
  • Participate in office and site safety training and inductions as needed to support office and site activities.
  • Perform field verification and provide field support during construction.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work in other Hatch offices or project work sites (including remote sites) as needs and opportunities arise.
You bring to the role:
  • Must be working towards graduating in 2027, or recently graduated, with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar program.
  • Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community.
  • Previous relevant co-op and summer work terms or internships in Mechanical or Piping design is an asset.
  • Academic or work experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley MicroStation, OpenPlant or Design Review CAD software is an asset.
  • Understanding or experience with layout development of industrial facilities is considered an asset.
