Overview

Garmin Canada has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Mechanical Engineering Team Leader who is passionate about solving real-world problems in the consumer electronics space. As a leader of a mechanical engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, verifying, and implementing mechanical or electromechanical components, products, and systems. You will deliver innovative mechanical solutions to Garmin’s fitness and outdoor segments, productizing and maintaining new technologies for consumer products.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and direct a Mechanical Engineering team to design new products, enhance existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
  • Supervise daily activities of the Mechanical Engineering team, ensuring attendance and providing guidance.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on employee relations, performance appraisals, and staffing needs.
  • Hire and interview new associates and interns to meet business requirements.
  • Ensure the team meets design, quality, and schedule goals according to the product development plan.
  • Mentor and train team members in Mechanical Engineering and project management.
  • Participate in design reviews, ensuring comprehensive coverage and sharing best practices.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Development teams to facilitate project success.
  • Evaluate feasibility and cost-effectiveness of new product concepts with management and manufacturing teams.
  • Travel internationally as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with 5+ years of relevant experience or 10+ years in a similar role.
  • Strong academic record (GPA ≥ 3.0).
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Alberta.
