Job summary

Equinox Engineering Ltd. in Calgary seeks a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to develop technical expertise within a multidisciplinary EPCM environment, supporting mechanical engineering activities on oil and gas facilities, contributing to equipment design and procurement.

You will work with process, piping, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams, assist with technical documents, and help ensure safety, quality, and code compliance across CSA, ASME, and API standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Registered as an EIT with APEGA is required.
  • 0-3 years of oil and gas experience with EPCM or EPC project exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Support the specification, evaluation, and selection of static and rotating equipment for oil and gas facilities.
  • Read, interpret, and apply equipment specifications.
  • Prepare equipment purchase packages and technical documentation.
  • Assist with mechanical equipment lists and material take-offs (MTOs).
  • Support technical bid evaluations for equipment and packages.
  • Review vendor drawings, datasheets, and technical documents.
  • Collaborate with process, piping, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
  • Support field engineering activities and site visits as required.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) who is eager to develop technical expertise and gain hands-on experience within a multidisciplinary EPCM environment. In this role, you will support mechanical engineering activities on oil and gas facilities projects, contributing to equipment design, procurement, technical evaluations, and construction support while working closely with experienced engineers and project teams.

What You'll Do

As a Mechanical EIT, you will support the delivery of safe, reliable, and code-compliant mechanical systems and equipment. Your role will include:

Mechanical Engineering Support
  • Support the specification, evaluation, and selection of static and rotating equipment for oil and gas facilities
  • Read, interpret, and apply equipment specifications
  • Prepare equipment purchase packages and technical documentation
  • Assist with mechanical equipment lists and material take-offs (MTOs)
  • Support technical bid evaluations for equipment and packages
  • Review and comment on vendor drawings, datasheets, and technical documents
Coordination & Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with process, piping, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and project meetings
  • Support communication and coordination with vendors, suppliers, and project stakeholders
  • Collaborate with drafting and design teams to ensure engineering requirements are incorporated into project deliverables
Project Execution & Delivery
  • Support the delivery of mechanical engineering deliverables in alignment with project scope, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, engineering calculations, and project documentation
  • Contribute to procurement, design, and project execution activities
  • Help ensure deliverables are completed accurately and efficiently
Construction & Field Support
  • Assist with responses to RFIs and technical queries during construction and commissioning
  • Support field engineering activities, inspections, and site visits as required
  • Help ensure designs remain practical, constructible, and aligned with project requirements
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Follow established engineering quality processes and procedures
  • Support compliance with applicable industry codes and standards, including CSA, ASME, and API requirements
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the mechanical engineering discipline
About You

You are an early-career mechanical engineer who is enthusiastic about learning, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to build a career within the oil and gas industry. You bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
  • Registered as an EIT with APEGA (required)
  • 0-3 years of oil and gas experience with EPCM or EPC project exposure
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
Technical Foundation
  • Knowledge of static and rotating equipment design principles
  • Familiarity with equipment specifications, and engineering documentation
  • Ability to interpret and work with P&IDs
  • Understanding of engineering principles and their practical application within industrial facilities
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including CSA, ASME, and API
  • Interest in the design and operation of oil and gas processing facilities
Software Proficiency
  • Familiarity with engineering and equipment documentation systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Exposure to engineering software and design tools is considered an asset
