Job summary

Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) in Vancouver, BC, seeks a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training to join the Power and Transportation group. You will contribute to hydroelectric and resource projects from concept through final design.

Responsibilities include designing new facilities or refurbishments, preparing drawings and specifications, and traveling to sites across Canada and internationally while growing technical and project management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (required).
• Eligibility for EIT registration with EGBC.
• 0–2 years of related design or construction experience.
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
• Willingness to travel to remote sites.

The Opportunity:

Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our Power and Transportation group in Vancouver. The mechanical group focuses primarily on hydroelectric and resource sector projects. Our projects include work on water control gates, large valve, turbines, penstocks and the balance of plant systems for hydroelectric generation stations (piping, pumping, HVAC, drainage). In addition to the hydroelectric projects, we also work with moveable bridges, cranes, and large pumping systems (slurry transport) for mining projects. Due to the custom nature of our work, each project is different, making our work interesting and varied.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

• Be involved with designs of new or refurbishment of overall hydroelectric plants from concept to final design
• Work on facility wide or major component refurbishments for hydroelectric plants, cranes and pumping systems
• Prepare design deliverables (drawings, specs, estimates, schedules, reports, etc.)
• Learn from a variety of experienced engineers
• Travel to sites across Canada and internationally
• Grow technical and project management skills.

What We Require

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
• Eligibility for EIT registration with EGBC
• 0 - 2 years of related experience in design or construction
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English, with demonstrated competent report writing skills
• Strong computer skills, ideally including MSWord, Excel, Mathcad, Revit, Inventor, SolidWorks and hydraulic design software
• Experience in hydroelectric and water control facility design;
• Hands on practical experience with repairs, modifications, or new builds, either through work, school projects, or hobbies.
• Experience and/or ability to perform outdoor and / or field/construction services
• Willingness to enter/work in confined spaces or at heights or at locations like penstocks with supported rope access (we provide the training)
• Ability to travel to remote work sites as required

What We Offer

The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 per year. Compensation above this range may be considered for candidates with significant experience or specialized expertise. The actual salary offered is based on an individual assessment of applicable experience, education, and skill level.
