Job summary

Qualifications

About the Role

Mechanical Engineer based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, responsible for the design, assessment, and technical delivery of building mechanical systems within multidisciplinary engineering teams. The role supports projects involving HVAC, plumbing, and associated building systems across both new construction and existing facility environments.

The position contributes to engineering studies, design development, condition assessments, technical reporting, and construction-related support across healthcare, aviation, commercial, and data center projects. Responsibilities include regulatory compliance review, building system evaluation, lifecycle planning, stakeholder coordination, and project execution across multiple concurrent assignments.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of building mechanical engineering experience, professional engineering licensure, and demonstrated exposure to mechanical system design, facility assessments, and field investigations. Experience supporting both capital projects and facility modernization initiatives within regulated building environments is highly valued.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage project scope, schedules, deliverables, and quality control activities throughout engineering project execution.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations and complete HVAC system sizing for ductwork, piping, and mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including engineering reports, specifications, and construction drawing mark-ups.
  • Conduct building system inspections and condition assessments of mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
  • Perform design reviews of engineering drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Develop cost estimates supporting repair programs, equipment replacement planning, and lifecycle asset management initiatives.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support integrated project delivery and technical consistency.
  • Participate in stakeholder coordination and client meetings to support project objectives and communication.
  • Undertake field investigations and prepare technical reports for reserve fund studies and property condition assessments.
  • Manage multiple concurrent assignments while maintaining schedule adherence, deliverable quality, and risk management objectives.
What do we need from you

Required

  • Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in building mechanical systems engineering.
  • Experience with HVAC systems, plumbing systems, fire detection systems, fire suppression systems, life safety systems, electrical supply and distribution systems, and lighting systems.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, National Fire Code, and Ontario Electrical Code.
  • Strong technical experience in design, assessment, and investigation of building systems across diverse project portfolios.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid G Class Driver's Licence and daily access to a personal vehicle.
  • Ability to successfully complete a written HVAC/Mechanical Engineering knowledge assessment.

Assets

  • Experience using Autodesk Revit.
  • Practical experience in the testing, repair, replacement, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, aviation, commercial, and data center projects.
  • Exposure to retrofit, renewal, upgrade, and rehabilitation projects within occupied facilities.
  • Experience conducting reserve fund studies and property condition assessments.
  • Familiarity with mechanical asset renewal planning and facility improvement programs
