Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to join our Mining team, based out of either Saskatoon, Bethune, SK., Calgary or Edmonton, AB or Toronto, ON. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for coordinating the design and multi-disciplinary engineering delivery of mechanical systems. The role requires the coordination of multi-discipline design work-sharing across multiple offices. A proven working knowledge of data-centric design, applied to work on major projects is required. Bantrel is working with K+S Potash (KSPC) as an Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT), to expand the KSPC Bethune Potash Mine in near Moose Jaw Saskatchewan from 2.2 to 3.0M tonnes per annum over the next 5 years. The final production capacity is intended to grow over decades to 4M tonnes per year, doubling the current production output of potash. Key personnel will support the project from Saskatoon and Bethune, with additional support staff supporting from Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto.

Duties & Responsibilities include:
  • Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and / or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for equipment.
  • Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
  • Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendation.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design.
  • Prepares and / or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • 10-15 years industry experience;
  • Professional Engineer;
  • Engineering design background;
  • Extensive Potash and / or hard rock mining experience;
  • Performs most assignments independently with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance from Engineering Supervisors on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed project plans.
  • Works independently and able to contact Vendor’s representatives and project field personnel to gather or give information.
  • Experience with coordination of multiple interfacing engineering teams;
  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams in multi-office locations;
  • Extensive Client facing experience;
  • Professional communication skills (written and verbal).
