A leading engineering company in Toronto is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Technical Writer / Work Instruction Specialist) to develop work instructions and improve work methods for new equipment. The ideal candidate will have a mechanical engineering background, experience in an industrial environment, and strong skills in Microsoft Excel. This is a contract position with occasional travel and shift work required.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in an industrial workshop, ideally in commissioning new machines/tools.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop work instructions for the implementation of new equipment.

  • Solve manufacturing issues in collaboration with suppliers and engineers.

Overview

Job Title : Mechanical Engineer (Technical Writer / Work Instruction Specialist) Location : Toronto, ON (MV B) Duration : + months contract

Position Summary :

  • Reporting to the Methods Manager, as part of a major program to build a maintenance center in Toronto, the incumbent will work within a multidisciplinary team in close collaboration with the production, industrial engineering, and health & safety teams.
  • This role aims to develop efficient work methods that ensure high quality in the execution of new equipment for the maintenance of our new trains.
  • We are looking to establish best work practices and standardize them across different production lines.
  • The incumbent will be called upon to intervene and support operations as well as the management team during upcoming changes.
Responsibilities
  • Develop work instructions for the implementation of our new equipment
  • Define work methods to improve quality and execution time of performed tasks
  • Participate in solving manufacturing issues in collaboration with suppliers, design engineers, and the production line
  • Complete technical and management files in collaboration with various stakeholders (production, engineering, quality, logistics...)
  • Research and propose technical and economic solutions to improve workshop performance
  • Ensure work methods are safe and comply with health and safety standards
  • Participate in mobilizing workshop employees
Requirements
  • College diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
