Overview
Report to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for reviewing and certifying ASME Sect. I, IV, VIII Div.1 and Div.2 design documents. This role is responsible for reviewing design and detail engineering of mechanical equipment and packaged systems related to industrial heating and filtration equipment. Candidate with process design experiences and / or electrical and control system is an asset but not required.
Primary Duties
- Acts as Certifying Engineer for ASME Sect. I, IV, VIII Div.1 and 2 design documents;
- Prepare and / or P.Eng. seal pressure vessel design reports and other required calculations;
- Prepare and review ASME code edition changes and identify changes required to Thermon quality program;
- Acts as Code compliance subject matter expert and provide guidance and direction to engineering and other disciplines as required;
- Develop WPS and PQR per ASME Sect. IX.
- Participate in design review meetings and provide feedback between production and engineering for manufacturability of design.
- Work closely with production, welding, and quality assurance teams to ensure that designs are accurately implemented and meet quality and safety standards.
- Review and interpret project specifications, engineering codes, and standards to ensure compliance during all phases of the design and manufacturing process.
- Follow all Thermon's quality procedures.
- Liaise with Authorized Inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Participate in root cause analysis and provide engineering support for troubleshooting and resolution of production problems.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Licensed professional engineer in Ontario.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
- Strong working knowledge with CSA B51 and ASME BPVC Sect. I, IV, VIII Div.1 & 2, IX.
- Strong understanding of materials properties, welding techniques, and fabrication processes for pressure vessel manufacturing.
- Familiar with FEA analysis methodology with capability to review FEA design report, interpret results, and provide direction to FEA analyst.
- Proficient with design tools and software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and / or PDMS.
- Working knowledge and / or experience in nuclear industry is an asset.
- Working knowledge with COMPRESS and MathCAD is an asset.
