A dynamic engineering firm based in Alberta is looking for an Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Engineer. The ideal candidate will lead project specifications and manage engineering deliverables while mentoring junior engineers. Responsibilities include technical compliance reviews and client interaction. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 10 years of experience in oil and gas facilities. Acero Engineering Inc. (“Acero”), a dynamic company providing engineering, procurement and construction management expertise to the Oil and Gas industry is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to fill a role as an Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Engineer. Acero is focused on facility and pipeline engineering, procurement and construction management services; from concept evaluation to plant start‑up. Our core service offering is in‑house project management, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering, project engineering, procurement, regulatory services, civil and structural engineering, and construction management.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direction in a leadership capacity to establish the mechanical requirements and detailed specs for a variety of projects
  • Daily usage of codes, standards and specs pertaining to oil and gas industry equipment, vessels, pipe, etc. This includes, but is not limited to: ASME, ANSI, CSA, API.
  • Client and vendor interaction
  • Manage and execute mechanical engineering deliverables on multiple projects simultaneously, in a dynamic work environment
  • Prepare mechanical data sheets for mechanical equipment & packages
  • Produce and review documents, design reports, design calculations and drawings in accordance with engineering codes, standards and client requirements.
  • Review the technical data sheets for oil and gas equipment packages systems, technical selection, calculation, sizing and evaluation of packaged equipment
  • Participate in client/vendor/contractor meetings including HAZOPs, model reviews and design reviews
  • Prepare and review mechanical equipment specs and datasheets (RFQ process)
  • Execute and evaluate mechanical bid evaluations for equipment (RFP purchase)
  • Ensure design conformance with specs, industry standards and government regulations
  • Review vendor designs, submissions, drawings and mechanical details/calculations for compliance with RFQ documents and Client/Project requirements
  • Identify and expedite technical information required from other engineering and drafting disciplines in order to carry out scopes of work.
  • Direct vendor activities to ensure that fabrication, installation and operational commissioning meet recognized codes and standards and customer requirements
  • Lead and mentor the Junior and/or Intermediate Project Engineers
  • Execute/review tie‑in lists, line lists, isometrics, NDT requirements and other similar mechanical deliverables
  • Review and approve mechanical drawings
  • Professional (P.Eng.) stamp mechanical deliverables
  • Other tasks/responsibilities, as required
Required Education, Experience And Skills
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in midstream, conventional oil and/or natural gas facilities/processing
  • Professional Engineer status (P.Eng) in Alberta
  • Proven ability to work with a multidisciplinary team including Process, Project, Regulatory, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls, Project Administration/Services, QC, Procurement and Construction Management
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering design principles and design codes such as ASME, CSA, API, TEMA, ASTM, NACE
  • Detailed understanding of various equipment used in oil & gas such as vessels, tanks, heat exchangers & coolers, heaters, rotating equipment (pumps and compressors), packaged equipment, valves & specialty items
  • Understanding of material selection and welding
  • Knowledge of fabrication and construction techniques and processes
  • Ability to review and approve work and write clear, technical reports
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment
  • Highly organized with the ability to work within tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of applicable provincial, federal and industry codes and regulations
  • A desire to be a strong team player and contributor in a dynamic, quality‑focused organization
  • Field experience is preferred
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines
