Job summary

Stantec invites a Mechanical EIT to join our Northern Canada Buildings team in Whitehorse, Yukon. You will contribute to mechanical design for commercial, institutional and light industrial projects, working within a multidisciplinary group to deliver coordinated drawing sets and calculations.

The role offers growth in a dynamic northern environment, exposure to code-based design, and collaboration with senior engineers on diverse projects across public and private sectors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team on complex projects.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.
• Assist in the design of building mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection.
• Review equipment selections and perform preliminary engineering calculations.
• Produce mechanical designs and drawings in REVIT and AutoCAD.
• Follow project standards and QC guidelines in the department.
• Work with Mechanical Engineer to meet project objectives and coordinate with the team.
• Assist with site instructions, RFIs, and field reviews as needed.

You will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and technologists on multiple commercial / institutional / health care / light industrial buildings projects for a range of public and private sector clients. Your Key Responsibilities

• Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.
• Assist in the design of building related mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials.
• Review equipment selections, perform preliminary engineering calculations, and develop preliminary designs.
• Produce aspects of mechanical design and drawings in REVIT, as well as in AutoCAD.
• Follow production guidelines and project standards in the department drafting standards manual.
• Work closely with the Mechanical Engineer and engineering group in recommending the best use of project tools to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues with the project tools.
• Ensure the assurance of quality, consistency, and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables.
• Assist with periodic field reviews of construction and construction administration tasks (conduct shop drawing reviews, respond to RFIs, prepare documentation for site instructions or change requests).
• Perform field surveys for drawing development, site reviews and as-built drawings.
• Performs thorough quality control of construction documents.
• Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team.
• Communicate with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standards to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner as required.
• Understand and execute and/or direct work within Stantec's quality control guidelines.
• Comply with Stantec's HSSE program, with a focus on safety in the field.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and staff; a “team player” approach.

• Good understanding of building mechanical system concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
• Knowledge or familiarity with National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Codes, National Energy Code, and local amendments/supplements to these documents.
• Knowledge or familiarity with LEED standards, ASHRAE, ASPE and NFPA would be considered an asset.
• Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
• Self-motivated and self-starter with a strong work ethic.
• Good time management skills and able to work in a fast-paced work environment. Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
• Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
• Strong desire to learn and work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.

Education and Experience

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering and a license, or plan to become licensed to practice in the Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut.
• A.Sc.T. Technical/Technologist Designation considered an asset.
