Job summary

Husky Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Designer (Fluidpower) to lead system level design for hydraulic and pneumatic applications in Bolton, Ontario. You’ll translate product definitions into high quality, cost-effective designs and drive documentation and validation plans.

You will work with engineers across disciplines, size components, and mentor teammates while ensuring design reviews and product releases follow rigorous standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 10+ years of design experience in a related industry.
• Specialized knowledge of product, market and customer requirements.
• Expertise in hydraulic standards, specifications, and compliance requirements.
• Skilled in fluid mechanics simulation and data analysis.
• Expert in calculating design parameters and applying engineering principles to design.
• Strong understanding and experience in hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling water systems and the related industries.
• Strong time management and organizational skills for maximum efficiency.
• Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
• Ability to lead autonomously and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering design as part of the product development process.

• Participate in business case evaluation.
• Act as product architect and develop design documentation.
• Verify engineering documentation and participate in design reviews.
• Size and select hydraulic and pneumatic components and materials.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and training to team members.
• Drive design reviews and decision making in product definition and architecture.
• Lead continuous improvement activities and risk mitigation (FMEA).
• Represent Husky technically to customers, suppliers and partners.

Job Description

Lead engineering design as part of the product development process by focusing on systems level and concept design. Translating product definition into high quality, reliable and cost-effective system level designs ready for detail design execution.

Responsibilities

• Work within a team of Engineers/Design Specialists in the development of new products. This includes all steps within a formal product development process
• Develop Fluidpower concept and system level design with limited guidance, frequently in the absence of specific design standards
• Participate in the formulation and/or evaluation of business cases
• Product architect
• Develops comprehensive design documentation and validation plans
• Contribute to and verify engineering documentation
• Apply scientific/engineering principles in the design of machines
• Sizing and selection of hydraulic and pneumatic components as well as material selection and application of design standards
• Provide leadership, mentoring and training to team members
• Lead and contribute to design reviews and brainstorming sessions as well as responsible for decision making in the context of product definition and architecture
• Participate in or lead continuous improvement activities
• Verify all concept and systems level process steps of the product development process and Product Release process are followed
• Drives the product development process by leveraging team collaboration to deliver successful outcomes
• Design risk mitigation including participation or facilitation of FMEA
• Cross discipline interaction and communication including cross discipline inputs – Analysis, Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, Validation/Test
• Represent Husky technically in front of customers, suppliers and technical partners
• Represent the Innovation and Sustainability department in front of internal customers including the executive team
