Job description

Mechanical Contractor seeking a motivated Mechanical Coordinator / Junior Project Manager for residential and commercial projects in Vancouver. Salary $80,000-$100,000. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full-time permanent role.

The Mechanical Coordinator / Junior Project Manager will organize, direct, control, and evaluate construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget. They will be responsible for overall project performance, including management of costs, schedule, quality, and overall project status, while maintaining excellent relationships with trades, subcontractors, and clients. Emphasis is placed on reporting and monitoring progress, planning and scheduling, and dealing with project changes under the direction of the Division Manager.

Role and Responsibilities of Mechanical Coordinator:
  • Support the Project Manager by creating and maintaining project files and coordinating with Site Superintendents.
  • Provide accurate and timely job management by coordinating subcontractors, job structure, cost estimates, and project management information.
  • Facilitate field reviews throughout the project duration.
  • Assist accounts payable/receivable to ensure accurate project tracking and invoicing.
  • Plan, in conjunction with the Division Manager, to execute mechanical projects according to Corporate Policy.
  • Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships to enhance competitiveness and promote good customer relations.
  • Prepare and submit construction project budget estimates to JDE.
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones; monitor progress against established schedules.
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Manage the implementation of quality control programs.
  • Represent the company on matters such as business services and union issues.
  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients.
  • Hire and supervise union labor, subcontractors, and subordinate staff.
  • Review work/contracts/WIP for risks, update WIP reports, and correct deficiencies.
  • Help manage the implementation of Health and Safety Programs, including Toolbox meetings, safety procedures, and PPE compliance.
  • Solicit and submit shop drawings between vendors and owners for approval.
  • Prepare operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Maintain document control using Procore.
  • Handle material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
  • Coordinate and manage various projects of different sizes.
  • Travel to various sites or clients as required.
Required Skills of Mechanical Coordinator:
  • A university degree in engineering or a college diploma in construction technology.
  • Extensive experience as a tradesperson may substitute for post-secondary education.
  • Several years of experience in the construction industry, including supervisory or field superintendent roles.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
  • Knowledge of Computer Estimating Programs is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-directed, proactive, with a bias for action.
  • Understanding of construction scheduling, planning, execution, and business operations processes.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Availability to travel.
